smoothing a rectangular selection results in aliased (jagged) edges
Using the rectangular selection tool, select an area. Then use the Select/Modify/Smooth operation on it for something like 10 pixels. Now fill the selection with a color and see that the smoothed edges are actually aliased and jagged.
To contrast, if you use another selection tool such as lasso and create straight lines by holding down Alt/Option, and create a polygon selection, then use the smooth operation on it and fill the shape, you see that the smoothing is actually antialiased as expected.
I'm guessing this has to do with the fact that the "Anti-alias" checkbox is grayed out and unchecked when using the rectangular selection tool, so it's treating it as aliased edges even during the smoothing operation.
Finally, why is it so impossible to properly report bugs for Photoshop?
