Something for the Weekend - Part 262 - Jewel in the crown

Thanks to all who took part in our drill challenge. It is amazing what was made from that simple object.

This week we have another object. It is a watchmaker’s jewelling tool, used to fit and adjust the jewels which act as bearings in a watch movement. Whilst that is it’s real purpose, I’m sure you can come up with some great alternatives. So for this challenge, what can you make from this tool?

The “rules”:

  • Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
  • The challenge is not limited to Photoshop. Any Adobe software can be used.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
  • The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the starter image, click it then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).

When posting back your image — please use the reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the bottom of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the reply button next to their image post.

Have fun!

Dave.

Good idea Bob - the addition of the ‘slide’ on the table is a nice touch.

Dean, when I read a post like yours, I know without looking that it refers to one of Jacob’s uploads.  Just like we can usually identify one of Jame’s uploads without looking at the poster’s ID.

How did you do the blue light effect Nils?  It has a Boris fx Optics look to it.

to be honest, this is a classic: Just took a screenshot from the series Fallout and put it on the image using a soft mask ;-)

no AI needed just low-level skills :)

For this challenge, I wanted to flip the script on this watchmaking tool. Using Photoshop, I took the basic object, cloned and tweaked it, and reshaped it into a futuristic motorcycle straight out of a lab.

To set the stage, I used Adobe Firefly to generate the high-tech laboratory backdrop, then brought it back into Photoshop to fine-tune the lighting and add those sleek graphic effects. Transforming a delicate crafting tool into a badass bike research lab was honestly such a fun, unexpected trip. Loved every minute of this process!"

A really nice idea, and I love that ultrawide aspect ratio.  I wish everyone would give the background with interesting uploads.  Did you prompt that virtual tablet that the lady is using? It’s a nice touch, but something that high tech would be self-supporting.  It’s not like it has any mass.

I saw Eddie Izzard in London years ago.  He did gags about the Daleks from Doctor Who saying if you were being chased by one, you just needed to climb some stairs.  They could only operate on smooth TV studio floors!  Well, if a Green Giant was after me on that SciFi bike, I’d find a narrow door or gate to slip through.  I guess that does presuppose that the Green Giant doesn’t get off his motorcycle.

Gemini generated the background and the top spark. The rest was hand made.

    Jewel of the water.

Background created with Firefly Gemini 3.1 (w/ Nano Banana 2), prompt:
side view of duck paddling in water, with feet visible through the water. cartoon, illustration.

AI image was a bit odd in the duck (created a 2 headed one). Removed the AI duck and blended in the SFTW 262 one. Main challenge was the underwater part.

Hah!  That is a web toed camel as I live and breath.  Syndactylia dromedarii as my old mate Charley Darwin used to call them.   The webbed feet are also very good for walking on soft sand (without sinking in).  A fully grown adult can store an entire pond in it’s hump.
