Something for the Weekend - Part 262 - Jewel in the crown

Thanks to all who took part in our drill challenge. It is amazing what was made from that simple object.

This week we have another object. It is a watchmaker’s jewelling tool, used to fit and adjust the jewels which act as bearings in a watch movement. Whilst that is it’s real purpose, I’m sure you can come up with some great alternatives. So for this challenge, what can you make from this tool?

The “rules”:

  • Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
  • The challenge is not limited to Photoshop. Any Adobe software can be used.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
  • The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the starter image, click it then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).

When posting back your image — please use the reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the bottom of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the reply button next to their image post.

Have fun!

Dave.

I was going to say ‘No Ai here boss’ because I found the background and added the rest, but now I look at it, that background is looking very Ai to me.  Is that ironic?  I’ve read that stock image sites are awash with Ai images now.  Yep, I just went back and found it again.  It was so perfect I didn’t look at the site.  I just grabbed it.   It is absolutely someone else’s Ai image, but it’s so much better than what I was originally using.  There’s no stopping it now methinks.

I’ve got to admit it (AI) is getting better. 😊

Cosmopolitan man would not be seen dead using anything other than a color coordinated steam-iron to do his laundary.

A wee thought here.  There are regular posters to this forum like Dag, who decry the use of Ai tools when creating our images, but it is getting hard to avoid.  I bet we all use Remove Background, and Object Selection tools multiple times with every project.  One that I am wondering how we coped before we had it is Free Transform > Rotate.  I have lost count of the times I have used it. I’ve used it four times in this thread.  Twice for the micrometre stand and one each for the steam-iron dial and nozzle.  It’s just so incredibly useful.  It’s a shame it uses credits as it is more of an everyday tool than content inventor like the Generative tools.

Keeping an eye on the jewels, Jacob.

Those watch jewels are so small that they need watching. Springs are slightly larger but they can launch themselves, never to be seen again. I’m sure there are as many watch springs in space, from amateur watch repairers, as there are satellites from Musk.

A tough one Dave. I’m not getting a lot of ideas this week.

I spared you all the Alfred Hitchcock shower scene.

An excellent start @D. Humann. I love the idea and the way you’ve included the posts alongside the image. Thanks for getting things underway this weekend.
