Text box in photoshop malfunction (blocks work space)

Hello, 

When I try to use the text tool, a white bar appears and covers the work space. This has been happening for two weeks or so. very annoying. When I select the text tool and click where I want text, a huge white bar covers the work space so I have to zoom out to see what I am doing. It isn't a large text box, it's just a massive block in my way. when I restart after saving my work it sometimes helps, but it does it again the next day.  I installed the latest version of photoshop to see if this would help. it did not. I work on a windows 10. Photoshop version 23.5.1

I just want the text box to create a text box not create a white block that covers the work space.
