Turn my image into a brush

Can anyone help either with instructions - or with links to documents/videos.  I can't find any that does exactly what I want them to do.  They take me about 90% of the way there, but I need help with the final 10%.

WHAT I HAVE CREATED

I have a full colour image of a butterfly.  I can turn it into a stamp brush which always points in the same direction - and that's fine for one of the uses for this brush.  I have also created a similar brush (for a butterfly for which I can set to the colour I want, and it applies that colour to the whole butterfly).  I also  vary the size and direction by using both Size Jitter and Angle Jitter.  Again, this accomplished what I wanted at the time.

WHAT I WANT TO CREATE NOW

I would like an amalgum of the two items above.  I'd like to create a brush from the full colour butterfly, which I can resize each time I use it.  I also want it to change size and directions (which I thought I could use using similar jitter settings as above).  However, I can't seem to achieve this.  When I use the size jitter rather than resizing the butterfly (which it did when I created the single colour butterfly)  it only shows part of it eg if its small it shows just the body, as it gets bigger it also shows parts of the wings. Also, the jitter angle doesn't seem to work.

As I say, I think I'm about 90% of the way there - but just can't work out the last 10%.  So help would be gratefully accepted - many thanks in advance.

Hi, if one of your devices supports it, there are also ribbon brushes in Fresco/Capture: https://helpx.adobe.com/fresco/using/ribbon-brushes.html

As an alternative, Adobe Illustrator can do what you want and use a colour image as a brush

A while ago I looked into »borrowing« a Tool to randomly apply Smart Object instances to clicked points:

Due to forum transition [] characters (together with iterator content) are earsed.

If you don't mind you may correct own codes in that thread you just linked us to 😉

I'd like to create a brush from the full colour butterfly, which I can resize each time I use it.

You could use the Clone Source Panel to scale and rotate the material you picked up with the Clone Stamp Tool.

Have you looked into achieving the task with with Smart Object instances?

That's a great idea - I hadn't thought of Clone Source Panel - I'll try that.

Oh, I haven't heard of Smart Object instances - I'll look into that too.

Thanks - this is really helpful (even if in the end I don't achieve what I want - I will have learnt loads).

The benefit of Smart Objects is that changes are easily done on multiple instances in one go.

Photoshop Brushes do not support full color brush tips at this point.

I think I'm about 90% of the way there

That seems unlikely but maybe I misunderstood; could you please post meaningful screenshots including all pertinent Panels to clarify?

Ahh, I didn't realise it didn't support full colour brush tips - so I think that probably explains why I can't get it to work.  The "90% of the way there" meant I can get a full colour stamp and can create a single colour that uses jitter - but that last 10% was the process to amalgamate the two to give me a full colour brush which also uses jitter.  But it makes complete sense if full colour brush tips aren't supported.

Thanks.

Not full color but  simple tips do support opacity.
