Updates to Photoshop CS5 download but don't install

I finally trusted myself enough to pause my older computer’s installation of PS CS5 and successfully installed CS5 to my newest, much faster computer. Several questions and one issue.

First the issue,  although the program responds and downloads the updates found under Help/Updates it will not install them. It appears to try but fails. A screen shot is attached.

Failed Attempt

I’m at a loss to understand what I need to do now.

On another note I’d really like to increase the display of the menu on top and the side panel actions if possible.

Thanks for any assist.

The Adobe Application Manager 10 that i gave the link to, needs to be installed after downloading, then run the Help>Updates from within Photoshop CS5.

However, getting the updates to install will not help with the activation issue.

I agree with ExUSA to use CS5 on your old computer and find an alternative for your new computer.

You don’t want to mess up the activation on your old computer and lose CS5 altogether.

Since Adobe stopped resetting activations for older software, it seems very hit or miss on getting a new installs activated.

Is there a way to back step the install? Is it possible that is what may have caused this issue with CS5? At this point I have no ability to open CS5 and all Adobe offers is spending more $$$$ which I can’t do.

You could try installing an updated Adobe Application Manager 10:

Thanks for the response Jeff. The download succeeded but if this needs installing after download or the files placed in a specific folder I’m unaware.

PS CS5 now will not startup on the new computer. Not sure if it is related but now PS CS5 will not start as it says all licenses are used. I had one lost to a dead computer years ago and disabled the last one on my old PC before installing on this new system. Going back to the old computer I started PS CS5 and loaded an image. It reactivated itself as I hadn't done anything as best I can see. And now the Deactivate option id grayed out on the old computer. This is highly annoying…...

Sorry, but those updates are not available for download.

I appreciate the response but they did indeed appear to download but failed to install. The progress bar was active during downloading the various 5-6 files showing download progress. It failed while attempting to install.

Related posts for updating shows a 6 year old reply that no longer applies it seems. Is there another way to accomplish updating? Installing a newer version is not practical for me as I use Photoshop for a few enhancements to my astronomy images. Old and retired this is a hobby, not a business so additional cost can’t be justified I’m afraid.

These updates are no longer available from Adobe. I’d be cautious about obtaining from anywhere else as it could be malware at this point.

If you aren’t a regular user, you could look into purchasing Adobe Photoshop Elements. Granted its a subscription but its $99 US for 3-years.
