Why does Photoshop automatically change the color profile when I open an image?I’ve noticed that some images appear with a different color profile when opened in Photoshop. The colors may look slightly different compared with how the image looked before opening it, especially with JPEG, PNG, or images exported from other applications.I’d like to understand why Photoshop changes or assigns a color profile automatically. Is this related to the image’s embedded ICC profile, Photoshop’s Color Settings, or the monitor profile?What is the correct way to configure Photoshop so that the original colors are preserved when opening and editing images?

This is a well-reported bug in the 27.10 release. The fix for now is to roll back to 27.9.1, which doesn’t have this bug.

What happens is that the document profile isn’t correctly converted into the monitor profile. This conversion is executed in the GPU, and the bug is in the GPU code.

EDIT: as c.p. says, the correct way to do it is to have color management policies set to “preserve embedded profiles”, and always make sure there is an embedded profile. Then you will normally be safe, but with the current bug all bets are off.
