Why is Photoshop trimming transparent pixels by default inside web export?

Exporting web assets from a layer or a layer group has been an important part of my everyday workflows. I used to organize hundreds of assets in PSD files and was able to export assets with exact desired sizes with just one click.  To avoid that PS trims transparent pixels, I used a layer mask that defines the desired area to be exported. This workflow keeps assets consistent and allows developers to easily control asset alignments.

So why is Photoshop now trimming transparent pixels by default inside the export dialog and why can't this be turned off? Please solve this.

Yeah, it sounds like this is discussing the difference in behavior between the old CEP Export As and the new UXP Export As. You can switch to the old version by going to Preferences > Export  and checking "Use legacy 'Export As'"

Export As appears to be a stalled work in progress. Adobe are aware of these issues. 

 

This was discussed at length when the Export As feature was introduced. I can't recall if this is can be circumvented by using Legacy Export in settings/preferences or not, or if adding a layer mask did the trick.

 

I'll see what I can dig up. One may need to use a scripted alternative.

@BrettN - Even for Apple Silicon? I still use Intel and had it in the back of my mind that there were limitaitons.
