Elements 10 can't get photos from scanner

I use my Elements 10 to get photos from my Epson scanner. I have not used it recently, but now, I get the message is that Epson is not connected or is busy. Is there any way that I can get them to 'talk' to each other? I have checked the network status and all is well as far as Epson is concerned ...There is no print queue currently.

PS I have recently upgraded to Windows 10 (not not what I would call a good move, too many things missing)

Thank you for your reply Jon, I have always been able to get photos from Elements 10. I have just emptied my Organiser of some 7000 photos, of which at least 100 have been scanned. I do have Elements 14 which does not take photos from a scanner. It looks like I will have to get the camera out and set up for macro then I guess....
