I hope you can help me with the following problem to recover my photographs.

I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 to manage/edit photographs on my desktop computer. I imported some photographs from my external hard drive with out a problem, then decided to install the imported photographs into a separate folder. The problem I have is I cannot exit the new folder to access all my photographs in the organiser, (I hope this makes sense).

I would appreciate your technical help in regaining access to all my photographs in adobe 14.

Kind regards

Alan, I am assuming that the default location for the photos that you originally imported into the Organizer catalog is something like a My Photos folder.  Is that the case?
What is the folder location of the new photos that you imported?

I am guessing that you are viewing the Organizer's Folder panel on the left of the screen in what is called List View.  You should change that setting to View as Tree.  (Click on the hamburger icon next to the My Folders heading and select View as Tree.)

The Folder panel will now display a folder tree of your computer exactly like Windows File Explorer shows the folders.  If you have one of the folders selected, only the photos in that folder will be displayed in the media grid.  If that is the case, click on the All Media button at the top of the grid and all of your photos will be displayed in the order set by the Sort by dropdown menu.

Greg, followed your instructions after clicking on All Media button I get 24 photos in total, these consists of the July  2019 photos I downloaded from my external hard drive plus 9 photos from messenger download in April 2023.

In the date line immediately above the photos this indicates 3 area of photos from 2009 to date.

    Hello Greg,

Thank you for your response. I imported the photos directly into organiser, I decided to place these into a separate folder to save me the trouble of find them every time in organiser. At this point I was and still unable to return to all my photos in organiser.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi @Alan29583506d5s6

You can't import in the organizer, the organizer is not a destination location in your computer/drive.

When you 'get files from camera or card reader' you are performing two distinct tasks:

1 - You 'download', that is you copy the files to your computer, either in a default location or a specified one by yourself

2 - The files are read and the info for each file (location, camera data and exif) are recorded in a database together with a tiny thumbnail.

So, the question is to know where you specified the destination on your computer drive. There is no copy of the media files in the catalog folder containing the database.

Michel, thank you for your reply. All the previous photographs I have downloaded will have gone into a default location.

All I am trying to do is access the photographs I have previously downloaded, as far as I am aware these haven't been deleted from my computer. Any help to locate these photographs would be appreciated.

How did you "install the imported photographs into a separate folder"?

As a general rule, the Organizer cannot import duplicate photos.  So, you can only import photos from one folder into your Organizer catalog.  If this is your situation, and you wanted to move the files to a different folder, you have to use the Organizer's Folders panel to move the files.

There are other possibilities, but I shall await your response as to what you have done (and exactly what you want to do) before giving further instructions.
