Most of my photos on elements 14 media screen turned grey

Most of my photos on elements 14 media screen turned grey and when I try to open a folder  or album the progran freezes.I recently removed duplicate photos from the computer "picture" files. How do I fix this ! Appreciate your help!   Bob
