PSE12 Folder View display issue

I hope someone may have seen this before, or understands it. I've not seen in before in any version of PSE.

I open a catalog in PSE12 (that worked before) and put up the folder view on the side. ALMOST all, but not all, the folder names are shown twice. One over the other, same spelling. If I click on the folder names to view folder contents in the main page, the photos that are supposed to be in 1 folder are split between the 2 folders with identical names.

In win explorer, everything looks ok...one folder with all the expected pics.

In the PSE grid, the photos display ok.  INFO shows them in a folder w/ the same name but of course I can't see which folder is which.

Other catalogs in PSE12 do not have the problem!   Tried repair, optimize, restart, ..... no joy.

    Thanks. Got me started.

I don't know what happened, but pretty sure I caused the problem. A lot of pics got duplicated on my computer and then picked up by the catalog. Two major screwups........no idea why. But I seem to recovered....at last.

    Thanks for the help.

I have never seen that issue reported here or in other forums.

The way the folders panel is displayed is not recorded in any way in catalogs. When you open the organizer, it reads the folders tree in the Explorer and checks it with the contents of the catalog.

I think the catalog itself is ok.  I have no idea why this kind of duplication or splitting happens only with one catalog.

A few more tests you could perform:

    - switch between the albums and the folders view, the tree or the list view.

    - close the organizer and reboot the computer after changing the view.

    - do a full backup and restore on custom location on a different master folder (on a different drive for instance).
