23.0.0 won't use clips 22.6.2 has no problem with (fps varies; frame size 1080x1920 vertical)

Hi,

23.0.0 won't allow me to use clips that 22.6.2 Build 2 has no problem with.

MacOS 12.6 Mac Pro, AMD Radeo Pro 580X 8GB graphics card.

To reproduce:

Create new sequence, custom, Timebase 29.97, frame size 1080h 1920 v (1.0000), progressive, 48K audio (TikTok dimensions)

Drag in attached footage "ThisIsATest.mov" which was created with Quicktime screen capture.

In 22.6.2 it works just fine.  To use the clip, I drag it to the sequence and crop and resize as needed.

In version 23.0.0 nothing I do will allow me to use the footage in the sequence, not dragging it over, not viewing it in the viewer and setting in and out points and inserting it, nothing.  I'm having trouble with many different clips. I can't use them in 23.0.0.  They don't match the sequence timecode and size, but in the past that has never been a problem.

Thank you for any help or work arounds you can provide for this error.

If you cannot drag clips to the timeline, source patching is the first thing you check.

Yup, the defaults for the source patching got changed somehow, and I didn't notice.

I made video showing the steps I take to reproduce the problem, and uncovered my error.  With the two steps-to-reproduce side by side, I was able to notice that in 23.0.0 the video-targeting rectangle starts out "turned off" somehow.  Clicking the empty spaces to the left of the lock allowed it to be turned on, and allowing me to add clips to my sequence again.  The targets to the right of the lock were on, so I didn't visually notice something missing.

I'd now re-categorize this as  "confusing user interface design" instead of "bug."  Do you have any idea how to make it so that it defaults to new sequences being able to accept video?

Hi Elizabeth,

Sorry for the frustration. Your media is functioning just fine here. We're going to need more info to file this as a bug. Check out Ann's post and use the template to provide more info to the team.

If you don't think this is a reproducible bug and want troubleshooting assistance, let me know so I can move this thread to the main forum. I hope we can get you back on track ASAP.

Thanks,
Kevin
