Question

All bins collapsed when re-opening a project

  • Issue - I edit in list view, with many layers of bins to organize my project. Bins twirl down and back up all the time depending on what I am doing. I leave my bins open in the state I left them when I close a project so I can pick right back up next time. Lately, however, when I re-open a project, all the bins have been collapsed so I have to re-twirl everything back down. This ALSO happens when I switch between Workspaces.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version number: 24.6.3 (Build 4)
  • Operating system - Windows 10 Home Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045
  • System Info: CPU, GPU, RAM, HD:
    • CPU: Ryzen 5950x

    • GPU: GeForce RTX 3080

    • GPU driver (PC): Studio Driver 565.90
    • RAM: 64 GB

    • Hard Drive: Media on internal 16TB RAID 1 / Project on internal 1TB NVME / Proxies on internal 4TB SSD

  • Video format: N/A this occurs across all project currently. Currently working with XAVC-I 4:2:2 10-bit footage in MXF wrapper.
  • Workflow details: N/A this occurs across all projects
  • Steps to reproduce -
    • Start new project: create bins, import footage, create bins, create sequences
    • Stop working to have a break with bins still twirled down
    • Save project
    • Close Project
    • Re-Open Project
    • Bins have all collapsed closed
    • OR - after Step 1, change to a different Workspace, bins have all collapsed closed
  • Expected result - Used to be Premiere would re-open with my bins all in the same state as they were when I saved and closed, i.e. twirled down in my last work state
  • Actual result -  All the bins have collapsed closed

After the update to 25.5 I also began having the issue for the first time, where each time a project is opened, all the bins are collapsed. I am now on 25.6.4 and am still having this issue with new and old projects. Everything is set where I need, and when I open up the projects at a later time, all the bins are collapsed. This happens on both of my machines with different hardware. I have tried resetting premiere pro to no avail… other than the frustration of having to re-do all my settings.

I see this problem has cropped up for others even before I had the issue.

Have there been any new developments as to a remedy?

Thanks!

Oh my gosh, this is frustrating. Every time I re-open a project (this one in particular that has loads of bins and sub-bins) I must go a digging and digging to re-open up all the bins to get to the resources. As mentioned, I have tried resetting the app and I have also tried saving new workspaces. I can’t seem to get anything to work. Please let me know if anyone has figured a solution.  Thanks :)

Hello, just an update here. I have updated to Premiere Pro 25.1.0 (Build 73) and the exact same problem persists. Any movement or revelations on the Adobe side?

Been having this same issue for a couple years. I keep checking around for a solution but so far haven't found it. Super annoying.

Thanks Rob. I have just tried it and it made no difference. Project still opens with bins collapsed after saving with them opened up. I then opened a few bins and changed my Workspace and all the bins collapsed.

Have you tried resetting preferences?

Launch Premiere Pro and then immediately hold Option (Mac) or Alt (Windows) until the reset preferences dialog appears.
