Apparent tool change lag in timeline

I'm using the PP 23.0.0 on an Apple MacBook Pro 14" M1 Max with 64GB. 

 

For a few weeks I've noticed a delay of a two or three seconds between changing tools using a keyboard shortcut (e.g. 'A' to 'V') and the tool icon changing. Irritating given the capacity of my MacBook but not fatal.

 

I've just realised that the lag is only apparrent and occurs if I don't move the cursor while waiting for the tool change. If I am moving the cursor the change is instant, as expected.
