Can't delete "illegally" named folders created by GraphicTemplates with "." at end

Default Premiere Motion Graphic Templates with a "." at the end of the name (e.g. in the German Version "Web-Beschriftung, einf.") create a folder within in the project's "Motion Graphics Template Media"-folder, that can't be deleted or even opened by Windows. (error: can't delete, file not found)

Renaming the template within premiere (deleting the "." at the end) fixes that insofar, as those "illegal" folders are not created anymore. But the previously created folders will probably remain on your harddrive until you re-format it. If I had to guess, I'd say that the "." at the end suggests to windows that it's a file with an extension - which it isn't, so windows can't handle it. Renaming the folder in windows is also not possible.

Hi @APAMarkus,

I've run into Windows oddities like this before - if you have 7zip, you can right click on the folder and select "Add to Archive," and select 'Delete files after compression'. You can then delete the new zip, and 7zip will have deleted the problematic folder.

I'll look into the file-naming convention of that mogrt.

Thanks,

Theresa

Hello,

managed to delete it (by having my company IT install a newer version of 7-zip). Thank you!!!

P.S.: yes I saw that my signature got posted, but I can't edit old messages now, or can I? It's no biggie, because it's my company-email and that's no secret, but if you could be so kind and delete it for me in my older messages, I'd be thankful.

@APAMarkus,

Thanks for being so responsive!

You can't attach a screenshot via email response. Also, you might want to delete your signature information when responding via email. It gets posted on the web.

@APAMarkus,

Sorry, can't do a screenshot at the moment. In the Add to Archive dialogue, it is a box on the right hand side.

Hello Theresa,

thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I can't find any "delete after compression"- option in 7-zip. I also tried adding -sdel in the parameters but this returns a "wrong parameter" error.

Best,
Markus

Yes, this is happening with the default MOGRTs in the German Version of Premiere. Some names are translated in an (inelegant) way so that they have a "." at the end. Premiere then successfully creates a folder with that name which the windows filesystem doesn't seem to be able to handle (Windows Explorer itself automatically deletes "."s at the end when creating folders). This has been going on for some time - the oldest file I can find on my computer (and can't delete) is from January 2024.

Thanks

Hello @APAMarkus

Thanks for the message. Welcome to the forums.  You're saying this is happening with the default MOGRTs inside Premiere?  Could you send a screenshot of what it's named?  If not would you be able to provide an example of one of the problem MOGRTs for us to test with?  Did this just start happening with the 25.2.3 update?  If you have time, please give the team a few more details. See: How do I write a bug report?
