I am finally feeling comfortable with Lumetri Color workflow! Yay me! But now there’s a new Color Mode! For those who are practiced in both, can you point me to good tutorials that will help me migrate to the new workflow? Thanks.

Color Mode is totally different in approach to working color/tonal changes in video from anything done before.

It is totally the brain-child of noted colorist and author Alexis Van Hurkman … who told me he’s still surprised he talked the upper Adobe folks into putting out the tons of cash to develop this over the last … well, over two years now.

I was one of the first group invited to the private beta over a year before release. And Alexis laughed as he watched me approach the Adobe booth this last April at NAB, noting my first reaction to the few bits they had in the initial private beta … my response over Zoom had been along the lines of what the Hades hot mess is this … thing … anyway!

Well … by the time they fleshed it out, and explained the reasoning behind everything … I got it. This is an amazing tool for working pro level color for the vast majority of professional projects out there.

Probably 85% of professional, paid to be produced video these days does not go to network broadcast/streaming or theatrical release. Those will probably for the most part still go to Resolve or Baselight. (BTW … I teach pro colorists …  mostly based in R and B.)

But for the work headed for company or NGO websites, explainer and Help channels … or at times even as a just local ‘spot’ ad… this is fast and enitrely capable of The Job. And it’s not even fully fleshed out yet. More stuff is coming that will make it even more capable.

All that said, you do have to learn to approach this without trying to make it Lumetri, Resolve, SpeedGrade, or Baselight. It is a totally new mental approach to color.

    Everyone's mileage always varies ...

Your high praise says a lot. I look forward to starting with Ann’s suggestion, in a Beta practice project. Thanks.
