Desperately seeking Premiere Pro CC '17 help with JERKING

Hi, I hope someone can finally help me or at least point me in the right direction.

I am trying out Adobe premiere pro CC (2017.0.2 v11.0), still in trial. I have the editing skills, i'm just new to this program. However I am unable to do START enjoying the trial because of the video/audio preview jerking really badly.

Now you may first ask me what #potato# I am running it on but wait-

I spent most of the night googling "playback lag" and "timeline stuttering" and I have seen loads of pages with help and support and they all seem like actual lag. as in, if you render the in/out it will be smooth, etc.

Mine looks different. My preview is jumping back and forth. audio skipping. video jerking. A second backwards, forwards, again and again, creating an unbearable stutter. I cant edit anything with a preview I can't watch. PREVIEW IS ON 1/4

Also might be important while in my newbie research: the preview is always sped up (I dont know why, i checked speed and it says 100%)

Basically I use only the video capture where I ONLY drag video footage and no sound, into my new sequence window. I then ADD a music file - that's all I need for editing.

So:

-Drag in the video footage and it's on speed and jerking back n forth.

-Drag in the music clip into the same sequence and when I hit play the whole thing is jerking. I tried different audio clips. I tried only audio, it's always jerking real bad and the sound sounds like it's echoing.

Please see the bar in the timeline and how it jumps back and forth all the time as you play the clip?

Not only video but audio skips too. All the time. I tried different clips, new and old, different resolutions, with and without audio - everything has the same exact jumping effect.

Other details: been using Cyberlink powerdirector, editing and processing files into 4K video and never had lag or stuttering in preview. I really want to switch to Premiere but right now this is impossible.

What is going on and how do I get past this, so I can get into Premiere Pro??

Please, please please. X.X

I -only- capture footage on the computer,

Might want to call it Screen Capture in the future.

You threw a few people off (video capture usually means capturing from tape camera).

I'm sorry, I will. My bad.

It still works fine, I have been working with it most of today.

It's a mystery what that was. Perhaps a setting indeed, Bill Gehrke .

I am partially worried it might revert back to said problem, and considering keeping that benchmark as a fix! Haha!

If you had a look through my settings screenshots and see nothing out of the ordinary then I guess I'll just leave it at this- at least it works and I have upgraded from trial

What are you using for your Project Setting?  Screen GRab please.

Have you tried others?

How is your source data spread on your HDDs?

I start my project with:

thank you everyone for your input.

I also don't think it's my computer performance that's causing this, it just doesn't look like the performance "lag" others post about.

I gave Camtasia trial a go but each time I recorded footage it was stuck on 'saving video' and would never finish, or abort just crash ( a lot of similar complaints on their FAQ) but from the brief look at it, it doesn't seem right for what I do - i need consecutive clips shot really fast without count downs and "wait while we save the clip" after each one like camtasia. I will try the other recommendation too.

In regards to BM shuttle, I am not entirely sure this is what I should be getting for video capture, but if my problem has really been narrowed down to the footage files, then I will go on a research journey into better capture software (or hardware?!)

Give step 2 a try.  Pay special attention to parts B and C.

@Ann Bens

Thanks for your reply.

For the sake of solving this issue, I will post the mediainfo details for the test video clip I was trying to play with while learning.

However please note that I did mention I tried different ones, including different resolutions, formats, old and new, as well as ONLY mp3 files without video and the result was exact - it was jerking.

Test file in treeview:

Gyazo - b6960a5084a4c1c86fcb90a1108f1814.png  (origin: this is an exported file I had already edited in PowerDirector)

Another test file which is raw recorded footage (using Action!) I tested which, like everything else, was just as jerky:

Gyazo - 511f1285f822274652e6fab47fc64001.png

My specs, Win 10, 64bit, up to date

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.5GHz

Memory: 32768MB RAM

GeForce GTX 980

2.7TB HDD (not Ssd) for cache

1.7TB HDD for files

222gb SSD for software and OS

I dont know what else to add.

@Jim_Simon

Thanks for your comment. I hope I am not being ignorant as per the link you sent, I am eager to get in and get cracking.

Like I said in my original post, I tried different media. including only audio (mp3, wav), different video formats, resolutions etc etc and the result was just the same (i started a new file each time i tried)

I always imported the files to the media bin and then dragged them into place.

I have not however heard of aja - and did not get far when i googled it. I currently use Action! for video capture. Again, not ignorant, and willing to take the extra mile and start using something better, if it means i'll get to use Premiere properly.

BUT as I said, I am at a loss because no matter what file i try, sound only or video, is jerking.

Your computer is somewhat old but mine is older and no jerky footage.

But then again I use footage suited for editing and not wmv or avi (with some to me unknown codec) which are not suited for editing in Premiere.

If you want to edit this stuff stick to Power Director.
