Display Color Management Problem

I have an ASUS ProArt DisplayHDR 1000 display that I'm using in HDR mode.  I want to produce HDR videos.  I checked Display Color Management to get the colors to look correct.  The issue I'm having is randomly getting glitches across the screen occasionally.  They look to be grey and are about an inch in width most of the time occurring about a quarter of the way down the screen.  I use an Nvidia Quadro RTX A4000 video card with driver version R535 U2 (536.25) which is the latest version.  Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

I'm having a similar issue with my monitor and PP, however my problem is worse.  I'm using an Asus ProArt PA32UCR-K which is also HDR1000.  Whenever I change focus windows in Premiere, try to scrub the video, make any adjustment using lumetri, the monitor blanks out.  It effectively makes using HDR in Premiere useless for me which is half the reason I got this display.  Like you, this issue only happens when using "Display Color Management" and in HDR.  Outside of this everything works fine.  I will also add that Premier is the only program I've used in HDR that exhibits this issue.  No problems with games, YT, LightRoom, etc...

I'm on Win 11 23H2, using an RTX 4070 ti with both Game Ready and Studio drivers being tried.  The monitor always goes into either HDR_PC Rec2020 or HDR_PQ DCI while HDR_HLG BT2100 ir DCI are unavailable.  I have tried HDMI and DP cables, both my own and both the provided ASUS ones, different resolutions, different refresh rates.  Nothing stops it.  I did use HDMI to my HDR10 Samsung TV with identical settings and it behaves exactly as it should without any issues.

I'm about ready to return this monitor.  I thought I could live with the shockingly bad inverse blooming, but if it can't serve half the purpose I got it for, it's not worth it.  I also have a Mac M2 Pro and I'm going to give it a go with Premier on that and see if it's isolated to Windows.

I tried reducing the resolution and the refresh rate and the issue still exists.  It only happens in Premiere though.  I tried playing a HDR video on YouTube in Edge and it worked fine.

No the issue is still there.  I did upgrade to the latest video driver and it still does it.  I tried a different cable and it still does it as well.  I did not try the downgraded resolution or refresh rate.  I'll do it after work when I get home.

@lvthunder hi, quick check on this one, wondering if by any chance you have resolved the issue? We're having active discussion with our partners, however cable is still our top suspect based on the symptoms. Did downgrade/upgrade graphics driver, or reduce resolution, monitor refresh rate help?

@lvthunder Thank you for sharing additional details. I double checked with my colleagues and we don't find any similar reports. I am going to talk with our partners at Msft and Nvidia. In the mean time, you could also try updating or rolling back your nvidia graphics driver.

OK I'm back.  I switched Display Port cables and the same thing happens.  When I play the video full screen (not maximized) the artifacts do not appear.

If you are using DP, it should have enough bandwidth for HDR content. I am less cared about its versions.

Please also check and share the win os version when you get back to this, so we can cross verify. So far I am not aware of similar reports. I suspect cable if you have an alternative one to try out.

To double confirm, I am referring to fullscreen playback, not just the app is maximized.

I can answer some of your questions now, but I'm headed out of town for a few days so I'll answer the rest when I get back.

I'm on the latest version of Windows 11.  It updates all the time so my guess is yes it's been updated recently.

Yes, it happens if Premiere is maximized.

I'm connecting via Display Port.  I'm not sure which version.

Yes, Display Color Management is required to allow display pipleline to deliver HDR content to display. What you said confirmed this only happens with HDR mode. Looking at your video, the artifacts are not limited to the application window, but covers full scanlines of the screen. This more likely to be related to graphics driver, win os, or even your hardware. A few more things to try.

  • What's your windows os version? Did you update it recently?
  • Does it happen if you playback in fullscreen in PPro?
  • Does it happen if you reduce your display resolution and refresh rate?
  • Does it happen if you re-plug your monitor cable? Or try an alternative one?
  • Are you using HDMI or DP? Which version?
