Hi

Issue

Audio output randomly disappears in Premiere Pro 26 on macOS, especially when using Bluetooth audio devices. Additionally, export sometimes renders only the first frame.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open Premiere Pro 26 on macOS

  2. Import video with audio

  3. Play timeline → audio works

  4. Change sequence / edit / switch panels

  5. Audio disappears in Premiere (system audio still works)

  6. Reconnecting Bluetooth headphones restores audio

  7. Export sequence → sometimes only first frame renders

Expected result

Audio should remain stable in Premiere regardless of Bluetooth device state.

Export should render full sequence.

Actual result

Premiere loses audio routing while macOS audio continues working.

Export occasionally renders only the first frame.

Environment

Premiere Pro: 26.x

macOS: Tahoe (latest)

Audio devices: Sony WH-1000XM4 (Bluetooth), Sonos

Multiple Bluetooth peripherals connected

When did the issue begin

Immediately after installing Premiere Pro 26.

Does it affect all projects?

Yes, including new projects.

Hi @sonja_8107 -   Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.  Please see, How do I write a bug report?

What are your system specs and drivers?

Does your audio work when set to system audio instead of bluetooth?

    Sorry for the frustration.

    Hi Jamie,

Thank you for the reply. I have performed several additional tests to isolate the issue.

    Observed behavior

The audio is present in the clips (waveforms visible in the timeline), but Premiere randomly loses audio output during normal editing actions.

Typical situations where the issue occurs:

    • Switching panels (Program / Effects / Source)

    • Changing sequences

    • Performing timeline edits or moving clips

    • Continuing playback after edits

    When this happens:

    • The audio meters in Premiere drop to –∞

    • Timeline still contains audio waveforms

    • macOS system audio continues to work normally

    • The issue affects all projects, including new ones

The only temporary ways to restore audio are:

    • Closing and reopening Premiere

    • Reconnecting Bluetooth audio devices

    • Changing the audio output device in Preferences

However, these are only temporary workarounds.

The audio engine disconnects again after further editing.

    Additional notes

This behavior began immediately after installing Premiere Pro 26.x on macOS Tahoe.

    Audio devices tested:

    • Sony WH-1000XM4 (Bluetooth)

    • Sonos speakers

    • Built-in Mac speakers

The issue appears most frequently when Bluetooth devices are connected, but it can also occur during normal editing operations.

    Expected behavior

Premiere should maintain stable audio routing during editing and automatically recover from device changes without requiring the user to restart the application.

Restarting the application or manually switching audio devices should not be necessary during normal editing workflow.

Please let me know if additional diagnostics or logs are required.

    Thank you.

Hi @sonja_8107 - Does this happen when you do not have bluetooth headphones connected? They should be fine as long as your default input is set to “no input” in your audio hardware settings.  Bluetooth headphones are notorious for disconnecting and dynamically changing the sample rate, which can wreak havoc in playback.
