Premier Pro Audio and Video Glitch

I don't know how to explain it other than just saying whenever I put audio or video into premier pro it will glitch, stutter and play at a faster pace than what is normal, I have tested the audio on the default windows programme and it's fine but whenever I put it into premier pro its glitches. Does anyone know how to fix this?
