Premiere 26.2.2 Transcript pauses are now too short

I typically use the transcribe feature (in English, with minimum pause length set to 0.01 seconds) to edit my videos, with cuts largely dictated by the narration. In the text window, I was able to click on an ellipses “[...]” which would select the pause in the timeline, then delete it, shifting the timeline automatically as necessary. Worked beautifully.

After the update to 26.2.2 maybe a month ago, when I click an ellipses it is not selecting the full pause in the timeline; when I delete the selection it is leaving a gap behind of about 1 second (but the exact amount is inconsistent).

I think the issue is in the transcribe feature itself. I have projects that I transcribed before the update and they still work as before. But if I take those same source files into a new project and transcribe them post-update, the pauses are now measured as being too short.

This is a workflow killer for me--what used to take 1-2 hours to edit is now taking 6-8. I tried going back to the last Premiere 25 version but that didn’t help. I’m wondering if when Premiere transcribes it is referencing some other application outside of Premiere itself.

If it helps, I was watching this thread on Reddit (I didn’t post it) as it seems to describe the same problem and started occurring at the same time, but I haven’t seen any solutions there either:

Any help would be super appreciated, this is absolutely crushing me! Thanks in advance.

    Hi David,

Thanks for the detailed report. This does not sound like expected behavior. Based on your description, it appears that pauses generated from transcripts created after the update are not matching the actual pause duration, which would explain the gaps being left behind when deleting transcript pauses.

The fact that older transcripts continue to work correctly while newly generated transcripts do not is especially helpful information. I've shared this with the team for investigation. In the meantime, if anyone else, like @Stan Jones, is seeing similar behavior with transcript-based pause removal, please add your workflow details and Premiere version here.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Thank you so much for your response, Kevin! If there is any additional information that would be useful please let me know.

I managed to grab some screen captures posted here. I took a project that was transcribed before the update and selected a pause for reference. Then I created a new project, imported the same source file and transcribed it (post update), and you can see the pause is way off.

Also, for reference, I have indeed tried opening a brand new project file with a new sequence (after fully clearing the cache), and I get the same results.

I hope this helps find a solution, I’m in a bad spot!

Above: This was transcribed before the update. Works beautifully!
Exact same source file, transcribed after the update. A huge pause is introduced that must be edited out manually. Each of my videos has hundreds of these.
