funny how after all this time adobe didn't care much about this huge issu...  I tried everything. realy everything.

The only think that work is re-installing windows.  realy sad that i have to re-install all my other app and every plugin etc. because one app doesn't work properly..

I hope it will help other people. I'll mark it as solve. even if the reason of the lag are still unknow...

Hey guys, I had the same problem which brought me to this page on my old MacBook air, I kinda figured it was the laptop which, It is. But I found ways to make Premiere Pro 2019 run a lot faster, things like closing applications help.

But the main thing I did to free up lag was not using 'Render and Replace'. I found that after reversing rendered files to their original state almost eliminated the lag I was experiencing. Of course, it's still struggling due to the size of my file but It helped a lot. This could also be the case for some other features and I would strongly recommend reversing some things to see if it works.

Premiere runs just like it would on any other more powerful computer and I'm having no worries.

Hope it helps anyone (:

Solved!

Simplest stupid solution...

Pre-installed 2018 version (the start up is the pic with the wet city and roads...)

The speed sadly is 10x faster there for everything... rendering.. exporting..

Almost similar 10 minute 4K video took less than 5 minutes to export.... wth...

Guess I'll just use 2018 until they fix 2019...

Doesn't make sense...

Yep. Terrible, laggy playback that stops me from really being able to edit and incredibly long export times and refused to export h265. Sometimes when I try to stop playback it will freeze and keep playing the audio until I force quit Premiere. The latest update didn't help. This is definitely the worst version of Premiere so far.

ya guys even I have the same problem even though updating drivers was not enough for me so I have to use proxy to get the desired speed that I wanted. In proxy we can use even 1/8 and even 1/16 resolution as a reference for editing.

For me at least, ever since updating my Premiere to version 13.1.2, I have noticed a major improvement in speed. My system used to lag horribly every 2 seconds or so and now I can edit 4K footage at full resolution with no lag at all.

This is absurd. Prem Pro has been almost unusable for 6 months now. It is so laggy I can't even playback 1080p at 1/4 without it dropping hundreds of frames. That is unedited footage, no FX, nothing. Can't even play raw footage without stuttering.

I have tried all the listed fixes AND NOTHING WORKS!

It is completely useless, a bricked app. AE is fine and I can work in that but I much prefer PP.

Six months and no fix. What the hell are you doing Adobe? Issues like this should be nailed in a few days or a week. Are you ever going to fix the issue?

Have you tried moving all 3rd party plugins out? If it suddenly works fine, you then put one at a time back until you find the one causing the lag. Worked for me.

Hello,
We have a very good iMac here, but still, periodic freezes every 3-4 seconds or so. You can clearly see it with the blue line when you press play (sorry I'm french and don't know how it's called in english), even though the video is playing fine, it stutters. For example, when I'm playing my edit and press pause at a specific moment to get a rythm, it won't be acknowledged for a second. Keep in mind that it also happens on an empty timeline.

But that's not all: imagine I'm placing keypoints on audio to do a little mix. I want to slightly move one up, but Premiere doesn't realize I stopped pressing the left mouse button and still moves my keypoint everywhere I go for the next second.

EDIT : To be clear, everything is periodically freezing except video playback and exports.

All of that is not crippling, it's just mildly infuriating knowing that we are working on a good station with the latest Premiere update. Here is a screenshot of our config:

I do know that we could update to Mojave, but from what I red on other posts it doesn't change anything and we can't take the risk to update right now for various reasons.
UPDATE : actually did the Mojave upgrade because it was getting ridiculous (spinning wheel of death every few seconds), nothing changed. The only fix right now is to reboot Premiere when it gets too unbearable. Every other Adobe app is working fine though, it's "just" a Premiere issue.

I already cleared cache, the mercury playback is on, etc.
Thank you for your time

I had the same issue as pretty much everyone above. After a long chat with Adobe support, i figured out that the update has caused a corruption of the metadata of the footage. To force the software to redo all of this, i found a very simple solution that worked for me at least.

Say all your footage is in a folder called "Summer Trip".

1) While Premiere Pro is closed, rename that folder to something else - say "Summer Trip USA".

2) Open the Premiere Pro and the project with the footage from the summer trip.

3) Since the footage is no longer in the same place, PP will prompt a Offline media window. Press locate and tell it to look in "Summer Trip USA".

4) PP will now find all the same files in the new location, and reload them all into the project, and start generating new Peak Files.

5) After the re-loading of all the footage, i was back to normal.

Hope this simple trick will help people get their projects back.

Yes.  Also this.

Have four mini-videos to finish for a streaming bit, shot simultaneously.  Can't even scrub through footage, anymore.

Dell XPS 15 9560 with 32 GB or RAM (28 dedicated to Premiere), Windows 10 and a 1TB SSD.

Have cleaned caches, updated all drivers, etc.  But, if I had to put a number on it, Premiere currently functions at 5%.  Renders take 20 times what they should and just trying to watch playback is almost an impossibility.

Was working fine, before.
