Premiere Pro 25.1 Keeps Losing Links

Apple M1 Ultra

Sequoia 15.2

Premiere 25.1 in collaboration with After Effects 25.1 continues to lose Dynamic Links after I re-link over and over and over again. I work on a project in the office on my desktop Mac. Then work on it at home on MacBook Pro. Once the project goes through the string change relinking required everytime I change systems (perfectly understandable) it then keeps losing the link after I have clarified where Premiere should be looking for my After Effects project. For some reason it seems to forget what I told it a few minutes later and I have to relink all over again . . . over and over and over. This is not a new problem. So far, none of the ideas for fixes for some of the similar dynamic link unlinking actually work. Is this something that is being worked on at the application code level at Adobe? Please. It's an old old problem.

Hi @georgep21368903 - I’m certainly open to working from the cloud, but I believe some apps and workflows handle this exceptionally well unfortunately, iCloud Drive isn’t one of them.  Lucidlink does this extremely well!

If you want to troubleshoot you can either put your files on your desktop for a day and see if you are still having issues, or naviagte to your settings > select your apple account > Drive > and uncheck the box that says Optimize Mac Storage

Thanks Jamie. The iCloud files are not being offloaded since the whole idea there is that they are pushed to the cloud and regularly being pushed back to the devices that are logged in to the particular iCloud account, I see larger files that are not necessarily part of an iCloud Drive sometimes being pushed there when my drive gets full. But I don't think this is that same situation. That said, I had the same problem with Creative Cloud. So, it definitely could be a "cloud" thing. But having projects on the cloud, otherwise, is the perfect solution to having access to "the one" project version wherever I need to access it. Editors that I know who save projects to any drive, external or internal, always end up with multiple versions of the projects and struggle sometimes knowing which is the one they need to open, not to mention they and others '"not" having access to the project file whereever, whenever. So, that's why I was frustrated and confused by Adobe's abandanment of the desktop cloud syncing with Creative Cloud. Why are they backing up with technology instead of working out the kinks? Anyway, I digress. Maybe everytime my iCloud account pushes back to my system from the cloud Dynamic link loses its link. So, maybe there's a fix in the Dynamic Link code that could be written. I don't know. Otherwise, I'll just keep relinking and relinking and relinking. I still think it's a a better system than saving projects to external local drives. Frame I.O. doesn't do desktop cloud syncing from their system either. Thanks.

Hi @georgep21368903 - Since your files are stored in iCloud it's possible that your device is automatically offloading them to save storage space, so when you go away and come back they are all offline.  I would suggest getting an external hard drive and not working on files stored in iCloud.

Thanks for following up.  I am not exporting the AE Comp, if I understand what you are asking. I actually am gestually dragging the comp from my AE project window into my Premiere Pro project sub-folder I've labeled for AE Comps. Typically, if I step away from my system or work on something else on my systemk while Premiere is still running, when I come back to Premiere my comps have all come un-linked. They always re-link easily. They just won't stay. My setup at home is using the same project files which I used to store on Creative Cloud (wish Adobe had not discontinued cloud syncing to desktop), but now store on iCloud. So, the system is different and therefore creates a different path to the AE project. But it always works. But, it seems to get confused once I've worked on the same project on the two different systems.

Hi @georgep21368903 -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.
Please see, How do I write a bug report?

Are you exporting the AE comp while it is linked in Premiere?

Are you saying while you are working the dynamic link goes offline?

What are the differences between your setup at home and at the office?
Sorry for the frustration.
