Premiere Pro 25 Crashing Entire Mac Pro After Upgrading To macOS Sequoia

Hello,

I recently made the poor decision to upgrade my 2019 Mac Pro (Intel) to macOS Sequoia.  I am running Premiere Pro 25.0.  After the OS upgrade I opened a Premiere project I was working on and noticed that in some areas where I had effects Premiere was reporting it was unable to load frames.  Even after transcoding and replacing the source footage, this problem persisted.

While I managed to work around that annying issue, a much larger one emerged.  When attempting to export a project it reached 99% and then suddenly froxe my entire system and caused it to crash.  Hoping the issue was specifically with Premiere, I tried again by sending the project to Media Encoder.  Same result.  99% and then complete system shutdown.

I have since managed to revert my system back to macOS Sonoma for the time being and Premiere works perfectly with those very same projects again.  I have seen a few crash threads on here, but nothing that quite matched my situation.  Any information on this and a possible expected fix timeline would be much apprecaited!

Hi,

We are currently experiencing a recurring issue with Premiere Pro versions. The system repeatedly crashes and returns directly to the user login screen.

We have already reinstalled macOS Sequoia 15.7 in Recovery Mode and also tested the system after downgrading to macOS Sonoma 14.8.2. The issue persists in both operating systems. After running diagnostics and performing additional troubleshooting, we observed the same behavior even when testing with a second W5500X MPX module.

No error dialog appears at the time of the crash, as the entire Mac becomes unresponsive. The system freezes for several seconds, then crashes and automatically reboots.

macOS Sonoma 14.8.2

Premiere Pro 25.3/ 25.4/ 25.5.

“Is anyone else facing the same issue? Please suggest how to resolve it.”

On Intel Mac, MacOS Sequoia 15.3.1 with Premiere Pro 25.1 and it crashes on startup (never gets past the spash screen) - anyone found a fix for this? 😞

Nevermind - my issue was some old plugins/filters (BCC, Boris Continuum Complete) stopping it from loading. Once I removed those, it launched fast with no crash 🙂

25.1 running on Sequoia 15.3.1 now!

@jamieclarke I have not upgraded to 15.2 and prefer not to at this moment as I have some professional projects in progress.  However, when I was previously experiencing the crashing issues with rendering I did switch to Software Only to see if perhaps the hardware acceleration was causing the crash, but ran into the same result.  After these projects are completed and I have nothing on my schedule I will try and upgrade and experiment again.

Hi @bartmjohnson - Have you tried upgrading to 15.2?  I'm curious if you navigate to Project File > Project Settings > General and change to Software Renderer, do you still crash?

Hi @Александр35030390z9fd - Are you using the transcription feature?  Can you try going to your preferences under Transcription and uncheck both boxes.  Let us know if that helps your issue.

Hello! I have MacOS Sequoia 15.1.1
Yes, there was a dialog box every time. Yes, I've checked the box with my email.
I don't have any plugins installed in Premiere Pro.
I'm working with footage from Sony a7m3 and Nikon z6.
By the way, nothing has changed after the update to Premiere Pro 25.1. It's still crushing. And one more fact: It's crushing only the first hour of editing, and then it's working properly. Any new project with new footage is crushing very often in the first hour or two, and then it goes normal. I really appreciate any help you can provide.
