Issue

Premiere Pro 26.0 fails to transcribe audible dialogue and displays “No dialogue found” when using MP4 files downloaded from YouTube via a third-party downloader. Audio plays normally, is clearly audible, and is properly assigned as Dialogue.

The issue affects all projects, including newly created projects.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Adobe Premiere Pro 26.0.

  2. Create a new project.

  3. Import an MP4 video downloaded from YouTube using a third-party downloader.

  4. Drag the clip into a sequence.

  5. Confirm:

    • Audio is clearly audible during playback

    • Waveforms are visible

    • Audio meters are active

    • Audio is not muted

  6. Assign the clip in Essential Sound → Dialogue.

  7. Open Text → Transcript panel.

  8. Click Transcribe Sequence.

Expected Result

Premiere Pro should detect spoken dialogue and generate a transcript.

Actual Result

The Transcript panel displays:

“No dialogue found. To enable transcription services, your audio must contain unmuted verbal dialogue.”

This occurs even though:

  • Dialogue is clearly audible

  • Audio meters are moving

  • Waveforms are visible

  • Clip is properly tagged as Dialogue

  • Enhance Speech functions normally

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Version

    26.0

    Operating System

    Windows 11 (64-bit)

    GPU Driver Version (Windows Only)

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU
    Driver Version: 32.0.15.9174

    Video Format

  • Container: MP4

  • Video Codec: H.264

  • Comparative Information

  • ✅ Affects all projects

  • ✅ Affects new projects

  • ✅ Occurs consistently with similar downloaded MP4 files

  • ❌ Does not resolve after restarting Premiere or clearing transcript

  • ✅ Transcription works after converting audio to mono or rendering/replacing as WAV

  •
  • Audio Codec: AAC (stereo)

  • Source: YouTube (downloaded via third-party downloader)

  • Resolution: 1080p

  • Frame Rate: 30 fps

I put together a small tool that transcribes video outside Premiere and lets you review the transcript before exporting it as SRT or VTT: https://neatscribe.com/video-to-text

It won’t fix the Premiere bug or restore text-based editing, but it may help if you mainly need the transcript or captions.

I am having this same issue as described, not sure about all the technical info from the OP about file formats, but rolling back to 26.0 fixes the issue.

I did try a couple of version 26.2s, but they didn’t work either, so I went all the way back to 26.0

What is now my issue, and this may need to go on a different thread, is that I have to do this roll-back AT LEAST 2 or three times a week, as in spite of having ALL auto-updates off, it keeps auto-updating. Or, if CC runs an update (especially the most recent one with no choice), it for some inexplicable reason updates all the apps at the same time. Over the last month, I have probably spent a collective 2 or 3 hours rolling premiere back.

I have even modified a file in the system registry to try and stop it, but no, 2 or 3 times a week, suddenly, auto transcript is not working, and I have to go and roll it back. I use the function on multiple videos and reels daily, so it is driving me nuts.

Transcript problem went away on 12 June 26 when I installed 26.5.0 Build 30. I tried a new .prproj and an older one that failed previously with many attempts. So Beta is OK for transcripts now! I look forward to the proper update.

My current project has been delayed by at least two weeks because of this. Luckily it is a long term project and I am consoled by Spanish beaches!

    @wombatant111 @bonebj @jimmy.mendoza,

Thanks for reporting the success and tests. Wow. I forget that the graphics card makes a difference on transcriptions.

I have Nvidia 3070 Driver 591.86 and Intel UHD Graphics 750 Driver 32.0.101.7085. I disabled the Nvidia, and, while it did transcribe, a) it maxed out the Intel gpu and b) it spent a lot of time of the “rendering audio” step, and more time overall. I a 2 minute sample, the Nvidia completes in under 30 seconds; the Intel took a few minutes.

This is a massive problem for our team, too. Some of us are experiencing the problem indicated in the original post, but some aren’t.

    Subtitle problems:
    1) 26.2.2 (BUILD 3) ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 - Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 7 255H - Intel(R) Graphics - 16GB RAM
    2) 26.2.2 (BUILD 3) ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 - Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 7 255H - Intel(R) Graphics - 16GB RAM
    3) 26.2.2 (Build 3) - ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 - Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 7 255H - Intel(R) Graphics - 16GB RAM
    4) 26.2.2 (Build 3) - ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 - Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 7 255H - Intel(R) Graphics - 16GB RAM

    No problems:
    a) 26.0.2 Build 2 - Custom Built - Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-7940X  - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti - 128GB RAM
    b) 26.0.2 Build 2 - ThinkPad E14 Gen 6 - Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 7 155H - Intel(R) Arc(TM) Graphics - 64GB Ram
    c) 26.2.2 (Build 3) L13 Gen2 - 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11 - Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics - 16GB RAM
    d) 26.2.2 (Build 3) ThinkPad L13 Gen 4 /  13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 / Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics / 16GB RAM

    Here’s everything I’ve tried so far…

    - Clearing media cache

    - try forcing a "static transcript" via the Text Panel menu

    - try changing clip to mono

    - make sure audio input is ‘none’

    - log into Creative Cloud before opening Premiere

    - Check Audio/Settings: Make sure the language is correctly selected.

    - create a new sequence

    - create a new project

    - new teams project

    - restarting programme / computer

    - select ‘create captions from transcript’ even if no transcript

    - fill right with left and vice versa to rule out phase shift

    - right click new sequence from clip

    - make sure all clips to be transcribed are in audio track 1

    - try to nest the sequence

    - try individual files

    - click ‘follow active monitor’ at bottom of panel

    - tried multiple clips of audio. Clips that can be transcribed on machines a – d above won’t work on machines 1-4, and vice versa

I tried a lot of this. Nothing worked, looks like Intel is a factor. I had Adobe take over my PC and they could not fix it. The guy went away to consult and came back and said it was an Adobe recognised bug. We have to await an upgrade. Meanwhile it is a real problem delivering contracts basd on recent version edits. It would be nice to have a statement from Adobe with a hoped for date for a solution.   Another week and I will start learning Da Vinci. Have installed it and impressed by playback speed on 4k etc.

Good to know it’s been recognised, at least…

Our work around at the moment is creating the subtitles in PP2025, then reopening the project in PP2026. Or someone creates the subs on a machine that works and shares the sequence via Premiere Teams. But both ways significantly impact the workflow...

I reported wrongly on 10 July 2026 that going to Essential sound and Tagging all doalogue tracks would cure this. Apologies I was wrong. (Transciption I saw was done on previous version and later additions tu timeline were not trancribed) Adobe phone guy said it was a bug that was being worked on.

With Premiere Pro 2.6.2.2 I did have this problem. I now find if I highlight all desired sound tracks in the time line and TAG them as dialog in the Essential Sound page, I can transcribe again.

In my case it's working again! I swapped my GPU (Intel A770) for a new Nvidia (RTX 5070 Ti). Since switching to Nvidia, the automatic transcription is working again in version 26.2.2. It seems it was definitely an issue with the Intel GPU in my workflow.🤷🏼

    @wombatant111,

Thanks for reporting. Is anyone else with this issue using Intel graphics?

I also have had this issue on the latest version. It works fine for my coworker who uses a Mac but for my Windows system it will not work. I have tried about every workaround there is.

    @nehemiah_7530,

Thanks for reporting. Rolling back to 26.0.1 is the best workaround for now - let us know if that works for you.

I ended up installing 25 and importing the XML into the old version. Then I Transcribed and exported the captions as an SRT finally importing the SRT in the new project. I just needed to get it done. I might try going back to 26.0.1 when I have some time.
