Issue

Premiere Pro 26.0 fails to transcribe audible dialogue and displays “No dialogue found” when using MP4 files downloaded from YouTube via a third-party downloader. Audio plays normally, is clearly audible, and is properly assigned as Dialogue.

The issue affects all projects, including newly created projects.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Adobe Premiere Pro 26.0.

  2. Create a new project.

  3. Import an MP4 video downloaded from YouTube using a third-party downloader.

  4. Drag the clip into a sequence.

  5. Confirm:

    • Audio is clearly audible during playback

    • Waveforms are visible

    • Audio meters are active

    • Audio is not muted

  6. Assign the clip in Essential Sound → Dialogue.

  7. Open Text → Transcript panel.

  8. Click Transcribe Sequence.

Expected Result

Premiere Pro should detect spoken dialogue and generate a transcript.

Actual Result

The Transcript panel displays:

“No dialogue found. To enable transcription services, your audio must contain unmuted verbal dialogue.”

This occurs even though:

  • Dialogue is clearly audible

  • Audio meters are moving

  • Waveforms are visible

  • Clip is properly tagged as Dialogue

  • Enhance Speech functions normally

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Version

    26.0

    Operating System

    Windows 11 (64-bit)

    GPU Driver Version (Windows Only)

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU
    Driver Version: 32.0.15.9174

    Video Format

  • Container: MP4

  • Video Codec: H.264

  • Comparative Information

  • ✅ Affects all projects

  • ✅ Affects new projects

  • ✅ Occurs consistently with similar downloaded MP4 files

  • ❌ Does not resolve after restarting Premiere or clearing transcript

  • ✅ Transcription works after converting audio to mono or rendering/replacing as WAV

  •
  • Audio Codec: AAC (stereo)

  • Source: YouTube (downloaded via third-party downloader)

  • Resolution: 1080p

  • Frame Rate: 30 fps

I’m getting the same issue. I hope Adobe prioritise this, as it’s preventing me from completing a lot of projects.

I got phone  help from Adobe. It failed and they confirmed there is a bug fault that should be rectified with update  at some future date

    @ShaunE @Andreas311479657170,

You made new reports about this problem in this thread. I have also just posted in 3 other new threads about the same issue, pointing them to this thread.

This is a frustrating bug that I have been unable to replicate in PR Releases 26.0.0, 26.0.1, 26.0.2, and 26.2.2 and PR Beta 26.3.0.58 and 26.5.0.3. I have only tested an English .mp4 with a stereo track using Win 11 and an English PR installation. Staff have not reported that they have replicated it. In user reports, there are good screen recordings that show it, and there are some detailed reports that rule out the likely non-bug causes. But there are many reports where users have not reported back to trouble shoot.

I believe the distinctive pattern to this problem is that transcription starts, and the window closes, as if the transcription completes. But there is no transcription, and the Text panel/Transcription tab shows “No dialogue found.”

The simple presence of “No Dialogue Found” does not mean there is a bug nor does it tell us anything about the cause. This occurs  correctly for many reasons. It can occur without any attempt to transcribe if 1) the Source monitor is empty and the Text panel/Transcript tab is in Source monitor view; 2) there is, in fact, no dialogue in the clip being referenced; and 3) the audio Channel/Track selected is empty or non-dialogue. After attempting transcription, it can occur if 4) there is audio phase cancellation in the track, 5) for some PR versions previously, the project file was opened by double clicking it rather than opening PR and selecting the project file, 6) the target is certain subclips,  or 7) transcription language pack installation issues occur.

The only reliable workaround is to roll back. However, at least one user needed to roll back only to 26.0.1; most users roll back to 25.x. It would be helpful hear from any users who find this working in 26.2.0 or other 26.x versions.

    @Logan35213978c66y,

Thanks for reporting back. For users who want to roll back but stay on version 26, this gives an option.

same issue. Adobe: I don’t need new features as much as I need to program to work. so may crashes, frozen programs and non working features over so many years.

Just wasted an hour trying to figure out why transcriptions weren’t working (26.2.2) before coming across this thread.

Rolled back to 25.6.5 and worked immediately.

Thanks Adobe, really loving your latest product versions </sarcasm>

I rolled back to v 25.0.0, and the transcription works. Hope v26.x.x will be fixed soon. All other answers that I found elsewhere (on Reddit etc.) such as put track on mono, or open file from the list in Premiere instead of opening from windows explorer, or sign in to Adobe Cloud before starting Premiere, were all not helping. Sometimes I wonder how Adobe is testing their releases, not thinking about the poor office guys with a HP machine…

I have pic and sound tracks with audible sound. I can export as normal but I cannot generate transcripts or captions. After initial animated work in porgress display I then get no dialog can be founmd. I have varied and changed formats, audio channels etc to no avail. I have routinely made transcipts and captions in the past. I am using up to date current and Beta versions of Premiere. Neither work. I often work in current affairs TV and this is fatal to my deadlines.

26.2 transcriptions all of a sudden stopped working for me today, after months of going fine. Tried everything. Nothing works.
