Premiere Pro 26.0 fails to transcribe audible dialogue and displays “No dialogue found”

Issue

Premiere Pro 26.0 fails to transcribe audible dialogue and displays “No dialogue found” when using MP4 files downloaded from YouTube via a third-party downloader. Audio plays normally, is clearly audible, and is properly assigned as Dialogue.

The issue affects all projects, including newly created projects.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Adobe Premiere Pro 26.0.

  2. Create a new project.

  3. Import an MP4 video downloaded from YouTube using a third-party downloader.

  4. Drag the clip into a sequence.

  5. Confirm:

    • Audio is clearly audible during playback

    • Waveforms are visible

    • Audio meters are active

    • Audio is not muted

  6. Assign the clip in Essential Sound → Dialogue.

  7. Open Text → Transcript panel.

  8. Click Transcribe Sequence.

Expected Result

Premiere Pro should detect spoken dialogue and generate a transcript.

Actual Result

The Transcript panel displays:

“No dialogue found. To enable transcription services, your audio must contain unmuted verbal dialogue.”

This occurs even though:

  • Dialogue is clearly audible

  • Audio meters are moving

  • Waveforms are visible

  • Clip is properly tagged as Dialogue

  • Enhance Speech functions normally

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Version

    26.0

    Operating System

    Windows 11 (64-bit)

    GPU Driver Version (Windows Only)

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU
    Driver Version: 32.0.15.9174

    Video Format

  • Container: MP4

  • Video Codec: H.264

  • Comparative Information

  • ✅ Affects all projects

  • ✅ Affects new projects

  • ✅ Occurs consistently with similar downloaded MP4 files

  • ❌ Does not resolve after restarting Premiere or clearing transcript

  • ✅ Transcription works after converting audio to mono or rendering/replacing as WAV

  •
  • Audio Codec: AAC (stereo)

  • Source: YouTube (downloaded via third-party downloader)

  • Resolution: 1080p

  • Frame Rate: 30 fps

    Did this get resolved?
Right in the middle of a project in v26.2.2.(Build3); open a project that was doing fine for months and now all of a sudden cannot create transcripts. Exactly the same symptoms. Same attempts to fix. Nothing working. tried numerous new projects, filetypes, audio files etc. Nada.

    @Filmz4Uzers,

Not resolved; rollback to working version of 26.x or 25 is the only workaround so far. You can keep 25.x installed alongside 26.x, and it is possible to transcribe in 25, export transcript, and import to 26. But that would be tedious for ongoing work.

Are you saying that 26.2.2 was working one day and then stopped? For most users who experience this problem, it appears to have stopped working with an update. Are you working with English clips?

Some users, as this thread, experienced the symptoms as early as 26.0.0. Others only report it with 26.2.2. Very puzzling. And frustrating.

I have been unable to replicate that problem. Transcription has continued to work correctly for me on Win 11 in all versions of 26.x.

Several people in our office experiencing the same problem. Tried pretty much every fix. Will look to switching back to Premiere 2025 until this is fixed.

The end result - I went through the Adobe support people (not sure how I managed to connect with an actual human), however we replicated the issue multiple times.

Eventually she rolled me back to the previous version.

She also escalated the issue internally and said look out for it as a bug fix in a future release.

To roll yourself back to the previous version:

1 - in the Creative Suite app click on the “apps” button

2 - locate the “installed apps” panel

3 - under premiere pro click on the 3 little dots and select the “other versions” options

4 - a panel will appear which has older versions listed. Just install the last preferred release. Then reopen your project.

    @Sacha243851799e1s,

Thanks for sharing your experience and listing steps to roll back. This is a frustration for a number of users.

For other users, note that this thread started with @MattTheGreat on PR 26.0.0. There are several other threads, most showing a problem in 26.2.0. There was a major change in 26.2.0 with a new set of transcription files. If you are on 26.2.0 : see this post by @mattchristensen1 and his recommendation there.

@MattTheGreat, are you still experiencing this problem?

Sacha, the replication you describe, I assume, was on your machine. I’m hoping staff have been able to replicate on their machines, but so far I have not seen a post indicating so. I have been unable to replicate (Win11) on 26.0.0, 26.0.1, 26.0.2, and now 26.2.0.

One caution for other users considering downgrading: if your project is 26.x, you cannot open it in 25.x, even using one of the tools to downgrade it. You may be able to open it by exporting as FCP/XML. You can keep 26.x installed and install 25.6.4.

A workaround might be to transcribe source clips in 25.x, export the transcript, and import to 26.x. (Yes, painful.)

I have tried various formats from different interviews, and it simply does not work in 26.02. Even the latest Beta version has the same issue for me. In version 25 it works fine. Please provide a fix as soon as possible. Thanks

    This is strange for sure.

I’d try exporting audio only clips as linear PCM WAV or AIF from the source video and then import those into the project for transcription.

I’d also try transcribing a Clip in a new project all by itself just to see if something else may be preventing the transcribe from working as expected in the current project.

    Hello,

I’m having an issue with transcription in Premiere Pro 26.2.

I’m working with H.265 footage recorded on a Panasonic Lumix S5IIX (interview audio). Transcription has always worked reliably for me, but in this version it suddenly stopped working.

When I try to transcribe, Premiere starts the process and shows a progress bar, but after about one third it stops and displays: "No dialogue found."

    The problem:

    • The clips clearly contain spoken dialogue (interviews)

    • Transcription worked perfectly before (e.g. in Premiere Pro 25 on another machine)

    • Now it doesn’t work at all in 26.2 – even with older interview clips that previously transcribed correctly

    What I’ve already tried:

    • Reassigning audio channels

    • Importing older MOV files with interview audio

    • Clearing media cache

    • Resetting Premiere to factory settings

    • Testing different projects

Nothing helps – transcription just doesn’t work anymore.

    System specs:

    • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9950X

    • GPU: Intel Arc A770

    • Premiere Pro version: 26.2

    • Works fine on another PC (Premiere 25, AMD + NVIDIA GPU)

Has anyone experienced this or has an idea what could be causing this?

    Thanks a lot!
