Premiere Pro CC and missing audio tracks for .mts files

Hello guys,

I used to edit my .mts files with Premiere Pro CC without any issues until yesterday.

Now I import my .mts file (made with a Sony VG900) but Premiere doesn't recognize the audio tracks (that I can hear just fine with VLC).

I tried changing the extension in .m2ts but it didn't work, I also tried reinstalling Premiere but, again, it didn't work and I tried (I was desperate) to install Premiere CS6 just to check if maybe the problem was just about the CC version. Guess what? It didn't work...

I tried also converting the file with Encoder in .mp4 but after the conversion I can't hear the audio with VLC and, of course, it doesn't work on Premiere.

Do you think it's a Premiere issue or a file problem?

I used those same files for other videos (like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1X5vsZ-5yI) and I had no problems. Then I updated Premiere, I moved the files in other folder and the problem came to life.

Any idea?

(I'm waiting for my colleague to send me a new mts file just to check if I accidentally damanged the old ones).

OK I'm not sure if this ever got resolved for any of you but I stumbled upon a way to fix it for my similar issue. I too was not having the audio appear on a project that I'd been working on for months. Same issue, video was on my timeline but the audio had no waveform and no sound (but only on some of the clips).

Heres what I did and it seems to resolve the issue.

By using the media browser I navigated to the original clip and simply opened it in my preview window and played it. Within a minute or so... my audio reappeared on my timeline. Strange but it worked. Needless to say, I'm thrilled as it would have taken me many hours to fix otherwise.

Did this work for all files?  My .MTS audio files NEVER appear...?!?

I'm having the same problem as 87arya had. I've discovered a few things though, which leads me to believe it's not a Premiere issue at all, rather it's something to do with the way Windows 8 handles AVCHD files. Basically, I can't get any audio from .mts files, using any application (including VLC). This includes files that I've had on my computer for months and have always played their audio fine. When I import .mts files into Premiere (CS5.5) they appear as video-only media, just like 87arya's did.

I've just tried updating my audio drivers, but apparently they're already up to date. It was an automatic attempt, so maybe I should try doing it manually. Otherwise, I'm going to start looking for AVCHD codec packs and see if any of them let me hear the audio on my files. It's frustrating and silly, and has only happened recently, and can only be the result of some stupid bug in an automatic update, since I haven't installed anything manually in several weeks. I'll keep you posted on my findings, but if anyone is aware of codec or driver bug that's causing this, I'm all ears!

Running Windows 8 (bug in my system won't let me install 8.1), 64-bit, on an ASUS G75V. Let me know what other specs you need.

I don't know if this will help your situation, but will help some others so I will share. I actually was in the middle of a project, upgraded to latest version, then the audio didn't work. What you need to do in that situation is revert to the previous version of the program:

Install a previous version of any Creative Cloud application

Luckily, when you open an existing file in an updated version, it preserves the original, so just click on your original file once you revert back to original version.

It appears that this is a problem that Adobe is not interested in addressing. Can someone recommend video editing software that will recognize the audio track on an MTS file?

I know Adobe doesn't care about my deadlines, but my boss does.

I have a project that I need to have done at noon...so, yeah, that was 40 minutes ago. Please, someone, help. I'm desperate for a solution.

I'm starting to think we need to abandon Adobe for something else...the price doesn't seem worth to me at this point.

I suggest you go for FCP , it may much better. And if you want to convert your mts or your mxf files , then I would like to say this FCPX supports MXF files nativately. But if you shot your videos with an external mic. then I suggest you convert your video seperately first, then load into this FCP, recommend you imixmxf, which I used to for now. And I love it.

it happened to me with mp4 clips. if you mean like this one

it is a an Adobe problem it even happened to media encoder. the clip is playable with any player app even I've tested it with other video production app & it works fine. so if you want to fix it temporary & fast without converting, get QuickTime pro to open the wanted clip then save the clip by QuickTime (save as) in another folder (don't change settings). in premiere pro just right click on the not working clip then choose (replace footage) with one you saved by QuickTime, voila!. if it doesn't work the clip might be broken or it need to be converted.

by the way I'm a windows 8.1 user

Hello,

I have a brand new… second hand Sony A7… Pics are nice, Movie Mode also !

But when I wanted to edit in premiere…No audio…The clips don't have audio track at all…

I found a solution there :

Re-wrap AVCHD clips to Quicktime in no-time - EOSHD

Using Media Converter to re-wrap .mts in .mov . You'll have to download an extension to do that. Operation is almost immediate.

It's free…opensource…

Just to remind Panasonic has made a free plugin to read .mts file on a mac, in quicktime…

https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/dload/avccam_impt/agree_e.htm

This time NO good point for Sony and Adobe…

Have to use Panasonic plug to read Sony file…and to download freeware to use Adobe's sold soft…

I'm sure both of them will do something soon !

Hi VProcessing,

Did you ingest the media properly? Re: CC 2014 doesn't import .MTS files?

Thanks,
Kevin

A similar problem here..... although......

Take a look at this screenshot

As you will see, the blue marked audio is repeated audio of less than on sec. Certainly not the way it has been recorded.

I think I've got the answer........ (working with Premiere Pro CC, always up to date, Mac OX 10.9.2; Camera: Sony HXR NX3)

1. Don't copy but clone your flash card to the location where to edit on your hard drive. At the same time: alt+click on external flash card, draw it onto your hard drive location.

(or use carbon copy cloner, which I use for backup and transferring avchd files).

2. Don't import regularly via the import dialogue box (cmd-i). Instead: use the mediabrowser browser, locate the map "private" (as often standard named),

3. Via cmd-a (select all): select all videofiles.

4. click right mouse button and select import.

This way, all the video and audio files will be imported.

If however you have alreade re-used your camera flash card for recordings and don't have access to the 'corrupted' files to be imported into your project, you won't be able to solve the problem. You just lost some of the essential data which were not copied onto your Mac.

This solution I found for my problem may well be the one you are looking for........

Another solution might be to convert the compressed avchd - before importing into your project - into uncompressed .mov filed. However...... you will lose data so this is not exactly what I would prefer if the former described workflow does fix the problem for you.

Please let me know if this works for you or not.

Good luck!

Regards,

Peter

Had the same problem. I had to convert the video to a sound file (in my case, MP3 was fine) and then match the waveform with the video.

@ViP good idea but should I do this while using a flagship app that can do it automatically while importing it? I think every thread wants the company to fix this issue that been a while since CS6 as I know

again thanks

Did you find a solution after a month or still not working?

No. And I'm waiting for an response from adobes support since then.

The only workaround: importing the clips one more time, as relinking wouldn't help. In my case, the clips had their audio at first. I used them in the timeline, every thing was fine, until I had to relink some of them. There the trouble started. Some had audio after relinking some not. I had to cut parts of my film all over again...
