Premiere Pro 'not responding' no matter the size of the project, HELP

No matter the size of the project, PP goes to 'not responding' and gives me that faint white screen over the top of my project window. I always have to resort to going through Task Manager (on PC) and ending the programme to then reload the last auto-save file and start again. It is even worse when linked with Ae files within the timeline. Rendering and exporting is difficult to finish because it crashes more often when it's doing one of those two things. I can never get any work done, please can someone relieve me fron this nightmare!
