Pro CC2022 & CC2023 - Blackmagic Capture

Hi - I'm an archivist so I still need to capture footage. I have a Blackmagic Decklink mini monitor which I've been happily using with Premiere CC2022 for a year or two. Now I've added the Ultrastudio 3G recorder. I also run Premiere CC2022 on my laptop and have been using that same 3G recorder for a while, and it captures fine in Premiere.

But on my desktop PC, I have a problem. I can select "Blackmagic Capture" from the capture options but then when I select "properties", Premiere immediately crashes and I get the light grey "error repotr" window. The same thing happens on Premiere 2022 & 2023. I am using the latest Blackmagic software update (14.4) but I downgraded to an older version (the earliest which supports the HD monitor) and that made no difference.

I can capture fine using Blackmagic's own media express software so that is working fine, there's obviously some kind of conflict with Premiere.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.  Thanks.

Hi @ECS_1 -

I’m sorry for the trouble you’re experiencing. I’d recommend reaching out to Blackmagic regarding their third-party drivers. I understand why you’re using older software versions, but unfortunately, they are no longer supported. Blackmagic may be able to provide an updated driver to help.

Thanks - I have mentioned it on the Blackmagic forum.

Jamie hi

Thanks for this. Ok so my laptop uses version 11.6 of the Blackmagic software. I've just installed that version on my PC, and capture in Premiere works fine.

However, that does not solve my problem, because as I say, I have the Decklink HD mini monitor installed in my PC, and version 11.6 of the software is too early for that card - I cannot play out from it. Unfortunately I have tried the first version of the software which includes updates for my card (12.3) .... and using that version of the software, once again, I cannot capture footage in Premiere.

Might there be an inherent conflict between the two devices when it comes to Premiere?

thanks again

Hi @ECS_1 -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.
Please see, How do I write a bug report?

Do you still get the error if you use the same blackmagic drivers from your laptop on your desktop?

Sorry for the frustration.
