Question

Reappearing Multicam clips wrecking Project Manager Consolidate & Transcode?

First, my specs:

Premiere Pro 2017 11.0.0 (154) build

MacOS 10.10.5

Mac Pro Late 2013:

     2.7 GHz 12-core Intel Xeon E5,

     64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC memory,

AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB graphics

     Blackmagic UltraStudio 4K video I/O

Utilizing Mercury Playback Engine gfx acceleration

I've been struggling with Premiere's project manager for some time, wherein the Consolidate & Transcode option behaves in unexpected ways.

I just finished cutting 2 seasons of an hour-long broadcast program (42:28 of actual program time per episode) and am facing increasing pressure to manage and archive so that storage space may be freed up.

There are VERY LONG raw interview shoots with multiple cameras each, that I used multicam clips to cut (before project managing, I DO flatten them first and delete all multicam clips from the project). There is also a great deal of supplemental material- Broll, still photos, gfx etc. of various media types & codecs (mp4s, Quicktimes of various codecs, MXFs).

Each episode is a separate project, and on average the original project size tends to be between 500GB and 600GB. So for a TRT of 42:28, I'd expect less than 60GB final consolidated project size (including 30-frame handles), but none have been less than 200GB.

Trying again today, i opted to UN-check the "Exclude unused clips" option, to see what might result and the estimated resulting project size HARDLY CHANGED:

So that's estimating resulting project size to be 316.06 GB,  As opposed to Excluding Unused Clips with 30-frame Handles resulting in 317.65 GB:

(I have the "preserve Alpha" option checked here because there are some graphics with alpha channels that I want it to just copy & not transcode.  Otherwise, all other settings are the same)

I've seen in the resulting projects that none of the interview raws get trimmed at all, and that the multicam clips that contain the entire raw interviews in 4 angles, have all mysteriously REAPPEARED.  The original raws of these interviews are all MXF files... would that be the cause of the problem?

Check out this list of issues that can cause Consolidate and Transcode to fail and see if your project contains any of these instances: Project Manager - Consolidate and Transcode

I do recommend using a proper file manager to manage files.  In your case, Finder.
