Render and Replace: Encode operation 0 of 1 failed for file

Okay I had the same exact problem. I would try to "render and replace" and either I would get a flash of the encoder before nothing OR it would give me the same error  "Encode operation 0 of 1 failed for file" - I was pulling my hair out!

I figured out by creating a new proj and sequence and importing the clip I was able to indeed render and repalce and edit in audition again. So the issue has something to do with my exisiting project and its settings (or bug).

I have not figured out the exact reason but I have figured out some factors that contribute to the error. I have also posted a work around below.

Factor 1: The error occurs after moving or transferring the project and files from one folder/drive to another.  In my case it was moving it from archive to SSD hot drive that I began seeing this error. My guess is it has something to do with dynamic link and project pathways. 

Factor 2: It DOES have something to do with a mismatch of match source - https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/render-and-replace-errors-when-trying-to-match-source/m-p/10154037 or if there were past proxies used and now are no longer included in the current working project.

Factor 3: It does have something to do with the actual saved .proj file itself. Something is corrupted or a clip pathways or codec mismatch. Creating a new Proj and re-importing the clips/footage in again does fix the issue. See steps below

Solution / work-around.

1. In the same project folder as the original. Create a new Project. Create a new sequence and input desired parameters (aspect, frame rate etc).

2. Open the old project in which the errors occurs.

3. Open the sequence you wish to fix. Select all clips in the timeline. Copy the timeline clips from the sequence (do not copy the sequence file itself in the media browser).
4. Paste the clips (from the old timeline sequence) into the timeline of the new sequence. All associated files will automatically transfer over in the media browser.  

5. Close the older project. 
6. Save the current new project.
7. Now you should be able to nest & render and replace & edit in audition again with the new project & Sequence. 

Hopefully this saves someone else time. Also hope someone figures out what exactly causes the bug.
