Severe memory leak caused by Auto Reframe in Premiere Pro 2025 (macOS)

Hello Adobe team,

I'm experiencing a critical memory leak when using Auto Reframe in Premiere Pro 2025 on macOS. The app consumes up to 95 GB of RAM (on a 16 GB system) and never releases memory, eventually freezing the entire system.

I generated multiple process samples using Activity Monitor while Auto Reframe was running. All of them consistently show `AutoReframeCore::Tracking::TrackMotion` and `AutoReframeWorker` threads in infinite execution, with no signs of memory management or thread cleanup.

This makes the feature unusable and causes system instability even after clean installations.

I can provide all logs and sample files if needed.

Thank you.

Hi @KevinCartton - Do you have the Epidemic Sound and AutoCut Panels open while using the reframe?  If so can you close them or uninstall and then try again.  I'm wondering if this is where the leak is happening.  I tried on a 10 minute sequence and did not have the issue you are describing.

  • Issue:
Adobe Premiere Pro 2025 on macOS causes a severe memory leak when using the Auto Reframe feature. Memory usage increases progressively until the entire system becomes unresponsive, and Premiere cannot be closed manually or forcefully.

  • Steps to reproduce:

    • Open Premiere Pro 2025 (tested on versions 25.2.0 and 25.2.3).

    • Create a new sequence or import an existing one (tested with 1080p H.264 .mp4 videos).

    • Apply Auto Reframe Sequence.

    • Let the analysis run for a few minutes (especially on sequences longer than 1 minute).

    • Observe memory usage via Activity Monitor.

  • Expected result:
Premiere completes the Auto Reframe analysis and stabilizes memory usage.

  • Actual result:
Memory usage skyrockets to over 90 GB (on a 16 GB machine), eventually freezing the system. Premiere becomes unresponsive, cannot be quit through the UI, Force Quit, or Activity Monitor. Requires kill -9 via Terminal or a full reboot.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro version:
    25.2.0 (Build 147) and 25.2.3 (Build 174)

  • Operating system:
    macOS Sonoma 14.5 (Build 23F74)
    MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro – 16 GB RAM

  • GPU driver version (N/A for macOS):
    Not applicable

  • Video format:

    • H.264 .mp4 files, 1920x1080, 30fps

    • Also tested with ProRes 422 — same result

    • Source duration: ~1 min to 5 min

  • Comparative information:

    • Issue affects all projects using Auto Reframe

    • Occurs with new and old projects

    • First noticed after updating to version 25.2.3, then confirmed on 25.2.0

  • Plugins:
    • Autocut
    • Epidemisound

Hi @KevinCartton -
Thanks for submitting your bug report. and your sample file. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.
Please see, How do I write a bug report?

Can you provide your system specs?

Can you also provide your settings and repro steps?

Do you have any third party plugins or panels installed?

Sorry for the frustration.
