Sony .MXF won't work with Neat Video on a Mac

When I apply Neat video (for noise reduction) to my Sony FX6 .MXF footage, Premiere throws a bunch of 'Error retrieving frame' messages.  I'm working on a Mac with an Apple MX1 chip.

All software is current as of Feb 15, 2023.

There are no other effects like Lumetri or time remappiong on the footage - it's just throwing errors on the raw 4k file. I am unable to render the file in Media Encoder.

If I transcode the file to ProRes - it works. So while that is a viable work-around, it's inconvenient because now I have to transcode all of my footage before I can work on it.

I had the very same issue using .MXF files from a Sony FX6 camera. Really annoying. Once I transcoded the clips to ProRes...they worked fine with NEAT. I went onto NEAT site and they said this is a known issue that Adobe has when dealing with the .MXF codec and that Adobe had been made aware of the situation. They need to fix this!

for what it's worth, I've always applied the neat plug in using After Effects.   I find the Neat interface is much more responsive in AE

Wow, this has still not been fixed in 23.5. For decent noise reduction in PPro you either need to render and replace before adding Neat Video or do your finishing in Resolve. I've been doing a lot more of the latter recently.

I haven't seen any indication that this has been fixed in the latest release (don't want to update as I'm in the middle of a project) so I'm assuming not. Please let me know if I'm wrong about that.

I'm kind of surprised as noise reduction is one area where Resolve absolutely destroys Premiere, so Neat video not being available to Sony shooters is a big win for the competition.

Neat were very helpful to me when I got in touch with them. They pointed out that as you can reproduce this with a Sony MXF file and any of Premiere's internal temporal effects (echo etc.), it's clearly an Adobe problem. Adobe have acknowledged this and a bug report has been filed.

Try using the rosetta version of premiere and see if that gets you over the hump...  M1 chips have some peculiarities...  And definitely worth reaching out to NEAT.  They've been very helpful to me when I've run into issues.

Have you tried anything else?

For example, I use Elmedia, which supports the .MXF file for Mac.

Bug applies to any temporal effect added to Sony MXF clips, not just Neat video. Can be reproduced by adding Premiere's built-in "Echo" effect to a Sony MXF file.

Registered as a bug here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-beta-bugs/retrieving-frame-errors-with-a-temporal-effect-on-mxf/idi-p/13562229

Hope this gets fixed soon!

Might need to contact the vendor as this is 3rd party software.
