Split Caption button is duplicating not splitting

I am using adobe premiere pro 25.5.0 to apply captions from a caption file to a video.  Some of the captions have too much text at one time so I am attempting to use the "split-caption" button to split the caption.  But when I put the cursor where I want to create the split in the caption and click "split caption" it doesnt split the caption it just duplicates it.  Then i have to manually go into both the original and duplicate caption and delete the sections I do not want.  

The split caption button use to function by actually splitting the caption where I had my cursor.  By not splitting the caption but duplicating it, my workload is greatly increased over a long video project.  

Is this a known bug and is there a fix in the works for it to actual work as a split button again soon?
