Super robotic audio when previewing any project

I've been using Premiere on this laptop (not even 1 year old yet and it has a ton of storage) since just the start of this year and I'm already experiencing difficulty in playback in regards to my audio. It just starts going really laggy and robotic sounding, making it impossible to preview anything unless I export the project. I disable all my clips in the project and just enable little 10 second sections so I can preview bit by bit but it's even struggling with that.
