Transition unavailable/greyed out?

Can someone explain why default video transitions are greyed out and unavailable?

Premiere2025

Windows 11

I am baffled. Is there a way to reinstall them without having to do the reset prefreences thing? TIA

I think I was trying to add it between a still image and the next portion of the video?

Does your clip have enough handles to add a transition in that spot?  Are you trying to add a wipe to the end of the timeline?  Some effects require two clips next to each other and won't work with just one.

It does not work. By the time I get to the actual clip, the cursor just turns back into an arrow as soon as I am in the timeline?

You need to drag the transition all the way to the cut itself.

Everything halfway will show the no go icon.

What about if one shows it is available but I drag it onto the clip and I get a universal NO symbol that hovers over it? I cannot add even simple things like a wipe etc.

All transitions are gray except the blue default transition.

Try resetting preferences and try again.

If you're in Premiere and click in the upper left corner, Premiere Pro > About Premiere Pro, which version of 25 is it?

We need a few more details to try to help with the issue. Please see: How do I write a bug report?

I'm using 2025. They are just greyed out? I cannot drag and drop.

Hi @dougsooley

If you move your playhead over the footage, do they become active?  Which version of Premiere are you using?  Did this suddenly start with an update?  Sorry for the frustration, and thanks for reaching out.
