Why are my premiere exports defaulting to “work area” rather than “sequence in/out”

I’ve got so used to my exports just defaulting to sequence in/out as I set them to, now they’ve just started doing this. For some strange reason there’s no option to have “sequence in/out” set as one of your preferences for exports. Why does Adobe make certain things like this so difficult when the solution should be so simple?

It means that I’ve got used to sequence in/out and so I go into automatic pilot not checking it, next thing I know my export is taking one hour and I don’t know why and then I remember it’s set to work area. I almost never want the whole work area exported.

Hi @Robbie34135385e7mh - For a new sequence that hasn’t been exported before, Premiere will automatically check whether In and Out points are set. If you set In/Out points before clicking the Export tab, the export settings will default to Source In/Out, based on that range.

I have to batch export clip by clip for a client :

I set I and O, for each of my first 10 clips I want to export, (I have to do 90 more), I sent them over to ME for batch export.

I have to change each manually in ME not to export the whole sequence ?

Rather than sending them directly to Media Encoder, click the Export tab in the top left. This will let you set Source In/Out for all of them at once, then click Send to Media Encoder in the bottom right.

select all clips → Export → Source Range : Individual Clip

Could be helpfull for batch exporting fast.

The range setting is "sticky" per sequence. As Jamie says, when first used for that sequence, it should detect entire source, in/out, work area. If you change it, even if you don't export, it will show that setting the next time you enter export.

If you have Work Area turned on, and export without setting in/out points, it will show work area the next time, even if you set in/out points. But if you change it to in/out, it will show in/out the next time (even if you don't have in/out points).

If it wasn't doing that, then resetting preferences, as Jamie described, is worth a try.

I see what is probably happening. Stan is right if you create a new sequence but have Work Area Bar turned on then the export tab will default to Work Area.

In older versions, this option was removed in the exportscreen if you disabled workarea.

That's the still the best option to avoid confusion.

Yes, it's available. It's just not set as the default anymore like it used to be and it seems like something there should be a preset for if you're using it multiple times every day.

I don't really understand then, because I'm definitely setting the in/out points before but it's not doing that.

Which version of Premiere Pro are you using?

In the export settings there is a drop down box labeled "Range" that is where you will see "Source In/Out" Is that not available to you?
