Windows File browser doesn't appear or gets stuck behind premiere pro program freeze.

Ever since I updated to Adobe Premiere Pro 2022 I've been having this problem. When trying to export a video and clicking on the file location, it opens up the windows file exporer. However that pop up window never appears. I think it's stuck off screen or behind the window of Adobe itself. I can't figure out a way to make it re-appear. This also happens when trying to browse through my luts, while using Lumetri Color and opening the File browser.

Please see the video:

At that point all i can do is open task manager and close premiere pro, because nothing works, everything is frozen as adobe assusmes I have to be in the file browser, but I cannot see the file browser.

Try resetting then try disabling fullscreen optimization on Premiere Pro.
Works for me

ESCape usually works to close the Explorer window, depending on if you've tabbed to move to another field. Also alt-f4 will close that window.

That later one would want to close PP if the hidden Explorer window is already closed. If you have pending changes you would get a warning so you could <cancel>.

I think its a Windows thing, it stores preferences of screen location. Mostly, that's the window opening off the visible screen area, in it's last used location. Are you using a large screen or something smaller like a laptop, and do you go back and forth between screen resolutions on your projects.

The bug is back in 2024!!! Save us from these substantial subscription charges for software thats wasting hours every week in bugs. They alwasy seem to appear with a tight deadline around the corner too!

Did anyone figuire out how to get the browsing window open without restarting the programme each time?

I never did, it still happens to me in PPRO 2025. I just have to remember not to double click to import, and to always use media encoder. I had this happen right as I finished a project and went to choose the export path and lost an hour of work. I'd change your autosave frequency in Premiere to every 5 mins. I've looked for a long time and the solution evades me, even on fresh reinstalls.

setting the autosave interval to 5 minutes is a good idea.  Autosaves are almost instantaneous at this point, so no reason not to as far as I can see.  Also, it's a good idea to check to make sure autosaves are actuallly working.  Everyonceinawhile, (maybe twice in the many years I've been working in Premiere) they don't seem to happen...

🙂

Squeaky wheel and all that. You can always chat or call Adobe. Chat button on your account page.

Let us know here too if you find anything.

I've had the issue occur using both just my laptop screen and with a larger display. I've attempted to use keyboard shortcuts to see if I can move the window on screen so to speak to no avail. I do understand it's hard to replicate considering it doesn't seem to happen to me everytime either. I'll try not using my second display for now and see if it pops up again. I'll pull the window down before importing too just in case. I'll pause my public demonstration of protest for now..

I've never seen the problem on my machines, so it's hard to fix if it's not readily reproducible.

Are you running on different size monitors from where the dialog could be on-screen on a higher Display Resolution, but off-screen on a lower display resolution. Like switching from a big desktop monitor to a laptop monitor?

What if you put the PP window all the way down at the bottom of the screen to just show the Input LUT field and click custom, to open the file dialog, can you now see it behind you?

Hey Adobe! Since the latest update I can now confirm that this happens 100% of the time I try to use the file browser. Good job, I'm glad you collect money every month from everyone without ever fixing anything. I might honest come here and post everyday until it's acknowledged in some way. Ive had a lot of issues across a lot of editing programs but I've never been unable to access files using the program for this long without a fix. Congratulations!

How is this possibly still happening? This has been going on for over 2 years for me with no fix. I lose hours of my week because of this issue - a simple functionality that every other software I have ever used in my life has 0 issues with. I'm in talks to swap our system entirely to not have to deal with this issue, taking thousands of dollars from your company. It's ridiculous that no one from Adobe has responded to the dozens of paying customers who can't use a basic function of any software, with no fixes besides clearing the cache, deleting preferences, or refreshing the workspaces. Ridiculous! I'm no moron and I do this any time I have an issue, this is a problem WITH ADOBE. I've reinstalled, updated, reverted back, done EVERYTHING I could find researching and nothing has worked. If you can't fix your program you need to at least make it possible to save a project while the file explorer is open, if that's not too much to ask. Is it absurd to ask for anyone to even acknowledge this as an issue? It's been over a year since this post has been up.

And yes, I have autosave enabled for as often as I can resonably afford to storage-wise. Yes I try to remember to save before opening a file. Yes, yes, yes. I should have to lose 10 minutes of work every time I forget to accomodate for Adobe's lack of support. I am completely at my wit's end with this. Do something or say something. We pay good money for good product, and that is not what we are given.
