Question

Browse Sequence unavailable for CHM output

I have defined a browse sequence and can include it in my html5 outputs as expected.  However, I do not have the option for including it in my chm outputs.  I have upgraded (from 2020.6) to 2020.8 and still have the issue.  I have also checked my Windows Settings to confirm that the browse sequence checkbox is selected.  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Browse sequences were definitely part of chms as I stopped using them when we transitioned to web output which did not handle them as nicely. But I'm pretty sure required the hhactivex.dll to be registered on all computers using that chm (the developers used to run a script when installing our software to ensure it was registered correctly).

I gather it's been getting more flaky to register over the years though. This thread offers a lot of advice about where the file should be and how to register it. https://community.adobe.com/t5/robohelp-discussions/browse-sequence-disappears-in-chm-on-other-pcs/m-p/2581119

RH2020 has a copy of the dll in the installation folder under RoboHTML. Do remember that your users will also have to have it installed and registered on their computers.

    Hi,

If DLL is registered, then follow below steps to add browse sequence in the CHM ouput:

    1. Create a browse sequence.
    2. In output tab, window setting-> create new window settings.
    3. Select browse sequence checkbox. Save window settings.
    4. Create CHM preset, go to layout tab .
    5. From Default window dropdown, select the window.
    6. Generate preset, browse sequence will be displayed.

    Steps to register HHActiveX.dll:

    1. Open cmd in admin mode.
    2. Go to location : C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp\RoboHTML\
    3. Run command : regsvr32 HHActiveX.dll

In CHM outputs, all browse sequences defined are applied. There is no way to select specific browse sequence.

Please let us know if this works. If you have any further issues we can connect over a call and resolve this issue.

Looking back at the last Classic version, there was no way to include a browse sequence in a CHM output. In the New UI versions, there is the button you refer to but the preset does not allow you to select a browse sequence. It's a long time since I have worked with CHMs but my gut feel was that browse sequences are simply not a feature and the window setting is an error.

However, I found this old thread. https://community.adobe.com/t5/robohelp-discussions/browse-sequences-for-chm-files/td-p/160164 which seems to say otherwise. That is for Classic versions though.

I will query this with Adobe and post back when I hear from them.
