My Acrobat 8 was working for awhile, until last week. It automatically shut itself down after about 8 seconds. First I uninstall, and then deleleted the Arcobat 8 folder and reinstall. The problem still reoccurs. I running Win XP SP2 on a Thinkpad T60p. Does anyone what a solution to this? This is extremely frustrating.

I had this same problem but on a Mac. I was given a fix in the Mac section of this forum. I'm not sure if it will help you Windows folks but maybe it will help someone figure out what is going on.

For those of you who do have the legal copy of Acrobat 8.0, do what Jeff said in post 123(I think) and it will work.

    Hey Jeff Moran
Don't bother about those who do not give their license information. Most of them are having the problem of Adobe closing down beause they are using cracked versions downloaded from other sites. That is also probably the reason for your not being able to duplicate it at Adobe.
I read your suggestion on deleting that trusted file and trying again. The reason you did not get many responses to that is because the people who have the illegal version do not even have that file on their system.

All of you who have illegal copies... stop bugging Adobe for your pirated stuff!

Obviously you have a version that works - many of us do not and are getting impatient. The issues raised by Holden Magroin (nice one!)are serious and deserve a response from Adobe - any software with such spyware should be sold as such or modified. Class action and EU competition and privacy lawyers must be sensing fees!

Adobe 8 : $499 usd with your Master Card
    Foxit PDF viewer: $0.00 usd
Being able to read your documents whenever you need it: PRICELESS!

If all you care about is viewing PDF's, and you don't need all the features that an also free product like Adobe Reader has then by all means use Foxit PDF viewer.

If you need to make print production quality PDF files, interactive PDF files, annotated PDF files, take advantage of ubiquity features, 3D annotations, collaboration features that Acrobat 8 Professional provides than nothing FoxIT has created or will create comes close.

I also applaud the number of FoxIT voluntary marketing people around - doesn't seem like a post goes by without someone mentioning it at Adobe's expense.

Your problem might be related to this file - Adobelmsvc.exe. This little file is spyware, pure and simple. It's also linked to Macrovision's C-Dilla/SafeCast. It comes with Acrobat, Photoshop, Distiller, etc. It hides itself in: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe Systems Shared\Service\Adobelmsvc.exe" and the EULA in regards to this file can be changed WITHOUT notifying you. It keeps track of your system components as well as making sure your copy is legit (MINE IS, so stop pestering me with it Adobe!), but it WILL eat away at your CPU cycles, it also fills the RAM with garbage and it reports back to Adobe WITHOUT your permission/knowledge. Deleting the file will do no good. It will reinstall itself upon using Acrobat, Photoshop or PS-CS. Renaming the file produces the same results as well. It's best to just use a firewall, like Zone Alarm Pro, to BLOCK this file entirely from loading (Kill Process) and do not let it access the Internet at ALL. While I have nothing to hide, I don't feel that I should have to share my system specs and personal info with ANY company without my prior knowledge. Also, if you change your systems Processor or RAM or Network card, this little damn file WILL disable Photoshop from loading unless you block it from accessing the 'net. Gee, thanks Adobe. Just what we need - more spyware. Not like there isn't enough floating out there right now, right? In closing, I'll never purchase another Adobe product again after this. It seems that Adobe jumped on the Realplayer/Windows XP dial home bandwagon too...
