Intertrust has released an updated version of its Doc Box plugin for Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Acrobat Reader 5.0.

Users that require the Intertrust digital rights management system in order to open secure pdf files are encouraged to download the new plugin. This new plugin also fixes problems for people who had system or debugger conflicts with the Doc Box plugin.

NOTE: This update is not supported on Windows 95. If you are using Windows 95 and are having issues with DocBox.api, simply remove any and all instances of this plugin. You can find the plugin by doing a search for "docbox.api" on your system.

I agree with Robert, Chris's post seems to be the first thing most people with the docbox issue read, but it doesn't include all relevant info. It should be added to his post. Or at least a link to the FAQ that covers this more in depth.

Well, I've just wasted another hour of my life (more like two) when I could have been listening to the Car Guys rather than trying to figure out why I kept getting the "invalid page fault in
module DOCBOX.API" message when trying to open Acrobat Reader. (Please realize that one tries several things first, like deleting Reader 5.0 and re-downloading it and then spends time pouring over the Adobe.com web site before stumbling onto the Adobe forums -- then it takes a while to find the relevant thread.)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU to Tom, WT, Steve, Sonic and all the others for pointing to the solution.

To Chris Holm: Why does your gray ANNOUNCEMENT box not mention that this fix doesn't work for those using Windows 95? You acknowledged that in message #62 on August 6th. Give us a break.

It's easy to see how one can get addicted to this thread. The replies are a riot, if snide.

Don't know, but it does seem a good idea to post a notice, doesn't it?

    GaryA,

Thanks. I found the fix and it worked. Like some others, the first time I looked at the messages, I didn't realize that there was a whole string of messages. I wonder why Acrobat doesn't fix this problem or post a warning at their download site.

Using a Windows 95 platform, I downloaded and installed Acrobat Reader 5.0. When I try to run it, I get the following error messsage: ACRORD32 caused an invalid page fault in module DOCBOX. API at 0137.3703597. Any tips on how to fix?

    >Since I have Windows 95, I took the advice of message 30 (Tom Geschwender - my hero!) - uninstalled 5.0, found and deleted ALL files from Intertrust, and installed Reader 4.05.

You could have just deleted docbox.api and saved yourself the trouble.

Although I prefer Reader 4 to Reader 5, it seems much faster to load.

Thank you, thank you, THANK you!

Last Sunday I started out to upgrade my Acrobat Reader 3.0 to 5.0. Five hours later, after downloading 5.0 twice, finding and downloading the DOCBOX.API fix much more than twice, and searching the tech help on both Adobe and Intertrust to the point of total frustration, I finally found this forum. Light in the darkness!

Actually, I read everything posted here, 357 messages at the time. It is surprisingly entertaining at least at 2AM. There is a sort of horrible fascination in seeing the same question and answer over and over and over. Especially when the fix posted at the top of each page turns out to be the problem.

Since I have Windows 95, I took the advice of message 30 (Tom Geschwender - my hero!) - uninstalled 5.0, found and deleted ALL files from Intertrust, and installed Reader 4.05. (Though I could only get older Reader versions from PDFZone.com. Couldnt find them on the Ziff-Davis site, and couldnt open what I got from Adobe.)

So, thanks to you self-made experts, I am once again pdf operational! Kudos to you all. And something quite different to Adobe and Intertrust, who could have been more informative (and informed) up front.
