Crop part of PDF without any (transparent) surroundings

I cropped figures (*.pdf) from scientific articles (*.pdf) with the excellent Krop tool by Armin Straub:

Everything worked fine until I needed to convert my final thesis from the usual PDF format to PDF/A-1b format for archiving. Suddenly, the surrounding full page around the images (that is, the text around the cropped picture) becomes visible in the PDF/A output. Maybe because this format does not support transparency.

Is their any way to solve this issue with Adobe Acrobat Reader Professional? By default, this program also crops by setting the surroundigs as transparent, but can I change this?

Okay, I kind of found a solution that works. The trick is to export the cropped PDF into EPS and then convert the resulting .eps file back into PDF, or use the .eps directly.

However, any other solutions will be welcome. Thanks

I am not familiar with this tool. Anytime you run into a problem with Adobe Acrobat after you've used a 3rd party tool that modifies the PDF document, you should get in touch with the maker of that tool. Without analyzing the PDF file that the tool produced, it's impossible to say what's going on, and what can be done to work around the problem. The developer of that tool (hopefully) has all this information, and can probably tell you right away about what the situation is.

I am sorry, but that answer was not addressing my question.

If you read till the end, you will see that I was asking about possibilities to achieve my goal with Adobe Acrobat.

Best regards,

Sebastian

Adobe Acrobat has a crop tool: Tools>Organize Pages>Set Page Boxes.
