Question

Line tool stuck

When I use the line tool to draw a line. I click on the initial point and then click the intended end point to complete the line. Too many times when I click on the initial point and then click on the desired end point, I cannot complete the line. The line follows my cursor but won’t complete creating the line. The only way to get out the malfunctioning line tool (or this file) is to force quit (task manager) to close the file (I cannot do anything else to the file).

It happens randomly.

VERY FRUSTRATING!

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance for any help!

I'm having the same problem in the new and old versions.  My Adobe updated itself on Thursday or Friday and that’s when the problems started.  I have Windows 11 Pro version 25H2, OS Build 26200.9168.  Acrobat is the 64 bit Adobe Acrobat 26.002.21901.  After I disabled New Acrobat, I also started having problems with the file freezing when I try to delete highlights.  A couple of error reports were sent about that.  I’m going to try a full uninstall and reinstall.

I am having the same issue! Looks like it is happening to many. I have tried all of the fixes suggested here and google with no luck! I have a deadline to submit my work today, a fix is needed asap!

Hi all,

I hope you are doing well, and I'm sorry for the frustration this is causing, especially for anyone up against a deadline today. Thanks for all the detail you've shared, it's helping narrow this down.

This does look like an active issue tied to the current version, 2026.002.21901, affecting the drawing/markup tools (Line, Rectangle, Callout, etc.) in "New Acrobat," where the tool gets stuck after the first click.

For anyone still stuck right now, without changing any security settings:

Press Esc to release the stuck tool immediately. This clears it without needing to restart the app.

If it keeps happening, try View > Disable New Acrobat to switch to the classic interface, and use the drawing tools within the Comment toolset there instead. A few users in this thread aren't seeing the issue outside "New Acrobat."

On disabling Protected Mode / Run in AppContainer: a few of you found this works as a stopgap, but we don't recommend turning those off; they're there for your security, and we're working toward an actual fix rather than a workaround that reduces protection.

If a full uninstall/reinstall (with the Cleaner Tool) isn't practical given today's deadline, the Esc + Old Acrobat combo above is the safer immediate option.

For anyone still affected who hasn't already shared details as requested by Meenakshi, like your exact Acrobat version, OS version, and when it started helps the investigation move faster.

We know this is disruptive, especially under deadline pressure, and appreciate your patience while we get this checked.

Regards,
Amal

I’ve been having the same issue since last week. I even uninstalled/reinstalled the app hoping that might solve the issue. Glad to know it’s just not me but this is very frustrating.

same problem.  it seems to be with all the simple shape tools in the comments.

snip of the simple shape tools i am referencing.

I use the rectangle tool and text callout box frequently.  The tool can be selected by I can click on document to start the rectangle but cannot click an end point to finish the rectangle.

Also, opened this morning and noticed an update had been pushed through.

Everything was fine last time I used it about 72 hours ago, prior to an update.

I’m still having issues with the 2nd anchor point.  Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

The temporary work arounds are not working for me either.

This just started happening for us today. We have 5 users on Acrobat Pro, and this is a problem across all the machines. Must be a bug in the current version

Killed my business productivity all weekend. Started sometime around Friday or early Saturday. Something changed. Might be a Windows Defender update, unless Adobe pushed an update. See below for my workaround.

Your workaround is working good. Disabling protected mode is not ideal but it helps fix the issue for now…
Hopefully Adobe gets on it soon.

I’d try pressing Esc first to release the stuck drawing tool. If that doesn’t work, updating or reinstalling Acrobat may help. The fact that reinstalling fixed it for another user suggests it could be related to the current Acrobat installation.
