Hi

I am using (or TRYING to use!) Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.
But every time it loads up I receive the following pop-up message:

"A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot continue. Please re-install the application and try again."

I click OK, and then another message appears:
"Acrobat.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x05bf1243" referenced memory at "0x12284e88". The memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the program"

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but the error comes back!
What can I do?? Can ANYONE help?!!

Hi John Jersey,

What kind of issue you are experiencing on the Win2003 system?
I guess it is something to do with terminal server conflict?

Thanks,

Kevin,

I have a win2k3 ts with the volume license edition of Adobe pro and this has not worked since purchased which has been over 6 months.

I have logged a support case, which was closed without my consent and all I see is Vista and XP resolutions (if you can call them resolutions) and nothing in respect to my terminal server issue.

I asked and will ask again, what about disconnected networks? In a perfect world we have Internet access to "register and comply" with license requirements! Not all of us live in the perfect world.

Signed,
Giving up and moving on

Hi Everyone,

The patch which Adobe had posted on Oct 2nd. URL below:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3750

could be safely used on Windows XP systems if the similar crashes, hanging behavior is exhibited.

Other possible workaround posted in earlier thread by Jeff Moran

XP Users need to use the steps that have already been posted here, but may be hard to find.
1. . Backup the following file, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\FLEXnet\adobe_00080000_tsf.data.
2. Delete the file from the location above, but not the back up.
3. Reboot the cpu
4. Launch Acrobat and see if it requires you to activate again.
5. If it does, activate Acrobat again.

Other causes
MS LiveOne Care has been known to cause conflicts with Activation, along with other firewall software. Be sure to allow FNPLicensingService.exe

Best regards,
-Kevin Cheng

We have a volume license 8.0 installed on a 2000 terminal server. Ever since the 8.1.1 patch was installed that this serious error is occurring. Anybody tried the XP steps on a 2000 TS yet, or any terminal server?

How do I remove Reader? I don't see Acrobat Reader listed in my Add -Remove Programs control panel (only Acrobat Professional 8)
Thanks,

I had the same error on XP machine: Running Acrobat Pro 8 and Reader 8.1.1 - all updated using adobe updater. I was unable to start Pro neither Reader.

1. I reinstalled Pro 8
2. Removed Reader 8.1.1 (that was updated using 2 files downloaded from adobe)
3. Installed Reader 8.1.1 from the site

The problem seems to be gone... so, give it a try.

I thought I'd post a little of my trials and tribulations getting my system working again. I have been having the same 'serious error' discussed throughout much of this thread.

Here is how I got into trouble. I purchased an upgrade to acrobat standard (8.0 from 6.0) everything went perfect and the system worked for about a month. A client asked about the 3D pdf capabilities so I downloaded the 3D trial version. Had to uninstall the previous 8.0 standard. I failed to click on the deactivate button during the install as I would be putting standard back on this machine. (May have saved a bunch of trouble). 3D worked fine. Removed 3D reinstalled 8.0 standard and it would not load.

I read this thread through and through and none of the 'fixes' here worked for me. Probably just my luck. I think called ADOBE and they tried to help me(A for effort, D for effect). I finally stumbled upon the system restore feature in XP. I went back in the system log about a month where 8.0 standard was working. Restored my system to that state. Reinstalled 8.0 standard, and it asked to activate the software. Seems to be working now. I only spent 1 full day trying to dig out of the fix that I got with the 'free trial'. Not impressed with the overall experience.

Perhaps this can help someone else.

I just posted a thread that may be worth looking at for anyone having problems with crashes at startup. If what happened on my system has happened to others, this would explain why reinstalling with 8.0 doesn't solve the crashing problems that began after 8.1. I'm on vista but the problem I had could just as easily occur on xp, and the solution would be the same.

Thanks everyone for the additional info -- much of the help sounds a bit techie as I'm not accustomed to installing/making "fixes" to my computer as an "adminstrator." With a small company, we really don't have an IT dept. yet. I was hoping that I could figure out the "best practices" from Adobe's Forum.

Well ... before I proceed with my install, I'm involving our outside support person, James. Once I get the program installed ... I'll post an update so that I can add my "experience" to the mix.

BTW ... I'm curious as to the outcome of jeffj's conversation with the Adobe tech. jeffj?? Any news to report?

As mentioned, I think you ahve the same issue i had with Acrobat standard. nothing works. I finally solved by doing the OS re-install, or in my case a new image for the machine. i installed no othr apps after the OS image, and it activated, I am now re-installing all the other apps.

It s apain but at least i can now work, i suspect either dregs of previous acrobat 5.0.5 installs or Acrobat 7, or possibly PGP, either way it seems that the something was interfereing with the ability of flex to work, and it is not the firewall I run as this is locked down a a system policy and is the same now as it was on the prior build that did not work.

Cut your losses, re-build the m/c
