Question

Where has the check box gone?!

I have just updated to Acrobat Pro CC 2009.008.20071 and now when I bring up a list of comments on a PDF design file there is no longer a check box to tick off changes as I go. I used to filter by unchecked comments to keep track of what fixes had been actioned. The check box is no longer there.

There are more approval options (completed/apprvoed/add check box etc) in the hamburger dropdown but that is surely not the process for checking off each edit?!

I have identified a temporary (but less good) workaround - (shift + k) which ticks the corner of the box but it doesn't then take you to the next comment as occurred previously, meaning that you need to click on the next one. This actually slows down workflow significantly in a graphic design setting where changes are actioned at speed and timed/. I have read in other forums that some designers used to press the space bar to tick and move to the next change to be even faster. @

So what's going on Adobe? Are we getting the checkbox back the way it was? Any news if and when that will be the case?

Sachin

If the filter function would live update, I could deal with this functionality break. As it is, if I check a comment as "completed" I want it to go away. I was able to do that with a live update by "showing unchecked" in the previous version. The filter function doesn't live update as I work.

As a solution to the check box issue in question, I have verified and suggest this process with Acrobat 2019.008.20074 on Windows 10 Pro. While the steps are slightly different than before it is just as fast as previous versions for processing multiple changes.

Follow these steps;

1) Open document.

2) Open comment panel.

3) Process first item.

4) When the first item is completed,

    >right click on the comment,

    >choose Add Checkmark

5) Left click Filter Comments Icon at the top of the comments panel,

select Unchecked under the CHECKED option,

then click Apply on the lower right of the dialogue.

6) Proceed to process items in the list.

As each item is completed simply >right click

    >choose Add Checkmark and the item will hide automatically.

7) Checked and/or Unchecked comments can now be filtered together or seperately.

This checkbox issue may seem like a little thing, but its huge. Not having the checkbox out in the open is causing major problems for me and my clients. Yesterday I actually missed a couple of client changes, because without unchecked checkboxes actually visible, it's a lot easier to miss some comments. My client called me and said, "You never miss changes. What's going on?" I can't repeat the answer here because the curse words will prevent me from doing so.

When I first saw the checkbox was missing in the beta version, I actually lost sleep that night over it. For reasons such as this, I actually have five different versions of Acrobat installed, as well as Bluebeam Revu. They all have their benefits and I choose which one to use depending upon the task at hand. I don't use DC for reviewing commented documents.

shift K instead of right click! filter - apply.

I signed in just to comment about this. Bring back the checkbox, we need this for clarity and productivity. I wish they would let us uninstall the latest update and just go with the previous one.

Terrible move Adobe!

Personally, I went back and installed the old version on my Mac. I describe the process here: How to Get the Old Version of Acrobat back

As far as how do do this on a PC, I don't know. Perhaps a windows user can chime in and see if there is a way to accomplish it.

1 month since the thread was opened. What are you doing Adobe ? It's must not be long to put back this feature....

THE MOST RIDICULOUS update ever. Completely ruined my workflow which is often amends to existing artworks. I cannot believe they've done this. Making changes for the sake of it.

Sometimes Adobe just makes a mistake. The "missing" checkbox is a great example. Bring back the checkbox.

A wrong decision perhaps, but this was definitely not a mistake. This was planned and engineered across multiple programs. Notice how the checkbox is also missing from Acrobat DC for web. The UI is consistent. From the lack of a checkbox to the “Post” button, it is very consistent.

I'm sure it's consistent! But maybe it's consistently wrong.

I'm also sure it's getting in the way of usability. Having that checkbox command under a menu slows down the process of making changes and also makes the checkbox less discoverable. This change makes less than no sense.
