Hi,How should a professional business plan look like?My teacher just gave me this sample business plan. Now, the content is alright, but what about the typography? I'm not sure, I'm not really a designer, but I do get the feeling it's not as beautiful as it could be. I take it a business plan should appear serious and controlled, almost conservative, as to show investors that you won't do anything stupid with their money. Also, I remember reading somewhere that the best typography is the kind of typography that goes by unnoticed (e.g. nothing fancy) as to not divert the reader's attention from the actual content.I don't know, what do you guys say? Thanks!
Is it like this? Here is my list:* Item 1* Item 2* Item 3 Or like this? Here is my list: * Item 1 * Item 2 * Item 3 That is, with or without the initial bullet indent? Much obliged!
HiI am having this problem with a logo that is in french and english. The french text equivalent is probably another 50% or so wider than the english. The English text fits nicely under the logo but the problem is that the client wants the text to fit under the graphic of the logo both the english and the french and not stick out. Is it just me or isn't that defying the laws of space and time or something. Am I missing something obvious here? How can two things of different lenghts occupy the same width while maintaining their aspect ratio? Isn't there some sort of layout bible we can look this up in? My only thought might be to add more space between the short words but I think that will look like crap.Any good ideas?-BlackPeregrine
Hi, I am looking for a recommendation of a good SERIF CONDENSED font(commercial one) Thank you very much
"Why do my fonts get corrupted when I use a flash drive to transfer my fonts from my old Mac PowerPC G4 running OS 9.2.2 to the font folders on my newer Mac PowerPC G5 running OS 10.4.11 and Classic?" The fonts (hundreds of them) look fine on the flash drive on my G4 but when I properly drag the flash icon to the trash on the G4 and then plug flash into my G5 all font icons are grayed out rectangles with exe???? This is exasperating to say the least. What am I doing wrong and saves time in font transfer/installation? PLEASE NOTE: If you can, please reply to my email address at freeman2343@comcast.net ~Thanks in advance. ~ Bruce Freeman in Oregon USA
I running CS4 on WindowsXP - system language is English set up to display and edit Asian languages. I do a lot of work with Asian advertisers and have a many hundreds of Chinese and Japanese language fonts in a special fonts folder in addition to thousands of western fonts. I have so many fonts on my computer that I don't want to place them all in the Fonts folder in the Control Panel. Can anyone reccomend a good font manager that will enable me to create fonts sets and display the asian fonts as well as the western. I've tried FontExpert 2009 and Extensis Suitcase, but neither will display the asian fonts properly within the program.
Can someone help indentify the font that is used in the Allsteel corporate logotype:
I tried posting this via the email link. We'll see what happens. And while I'm at it, did the ATM forum also disappear? - Herb
I just learned that Adobe has discontinued NNTP (Newsreader/Newsgroup) access to these forums. I only found out because I couldn't connect via NNTP and came here to the 'general' forum to register a problem ... which turned out to be 'a feature'. I'm afraid that I won't be coming by here as often, if at all. Going to a website to see if there's any activity is a PITA compared to the NNTP alternative, where the group name just sits there among others and gets highlighted when there's new activity. I posted some more detailed objections (aka whined) in the general forum. - Herb V B
Anyone know what the current typeface trends in today's news broadcasts? I notice Trade Gothic was popular in the early 2000s. I see a lot of stations use Din lately. Are there any other modern ones you notice?
(This notice has been updated repeatedly to discuss: OS X 10.2, Adobe app bugs with 10.2 support, "cocoa" applications; Adobe phasing out MM font sales; Adobe discontinuing tech support for MM fonts. Last update: 23 Sep 2005.) With versions 10.0 and 10.1, Mac OS X's native support for Type 1 and OpenType initially failed to include support for multiple master Type 1 fonts. This problem is fixed in OS X version 10.2 and later for applications using the "carbon" APIs, but not for applications using "cocoa" APIs. The two most common "cocoa" applications are TextEdit and Keynote. Note that applications running in "Classic" mode are unaffected. They still need ATM for supporting Type 1 fonts, including multiple master fonts. There is a workaround for some Adobe applications, such as InDesign 2, Illustrator 10 and Photoshop 7. You can rely on the native font imaging support in these applications, which is largely independent of the OS. Just put the fonts in the the Fonts folder in the app

I routinely update PDFs where the originator is unavailable to question about typography issues. The problem I'm having currently, and continue to have, is that Acrobat (on V8) identifies font names differently from say...the Adobe Store. For instance, currently I'm editing a PDF that uses fonts from the "HelveticaNeue" family. I don't have this font, so if I go over to the Adobe store and try to find it, I get multiple types of "HelveticaNeue" font, and none of them are exactly what Acrobat provides as the name. For instance: Acrobat says: HelveticaNeue-Black Adobe store offers: Helvetica Neue Std Black Helvetica Neue 93 Black Helvetica Neue 95 Black and so on and so forth But NO "HelveticaNeue-Black" is in the list. Neither the spelling of the Acrobat font family, or the actual full name seem to match anything in the Adobe store. So, does anyone know a way to figure out exactly which font family Acrobat has in the PDF? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I was hoping someone might be able to help me understand how fonts work in PDFs. Sometimes when I create a PDF in InDesign, I get a warning message "only fonts with appropriate permission bits will be enabled". (Having said that, I've been PDFing old files like mad to get it to happen, and can't reproduce the warning message...) Can someone explain what this message means? Does it relate to ill-gotten fonts, because as far as I know, I only have purchased fonts (including ones that come with applications) on my system. Does this message mean that some fonts in my PDFs may appear differently on other people's systems? I was under the impression that all fonts are embedded in a PDF. Finally, what does this mean for free fonts, like from dafont.com - do they have appropriate permission bits? Are permission bits related to preventing illegal use of fonts? If anyone can shed some light on this, or point me in the direction of some online information, I'd be most grateful. Sorry f
Hi everyone, Above the subject line is our project title. I am much interested to do the project for this title. The project is going to cover by five units. I have knowledge about fonts and its types, font caches, font hierarchies for both MAC and Windows platforms. I am doing my Printing Technology Engineering as part time. As well working in e-publishing concern as a Lead Technical in R&D Team. For this project we have three reviews. First review got finished. In this review we just give an introduction about the fonts. Remaining two reviews is there. Our motive is to find font related problems in all applications and solutions for it. I need suggestion from you guys that what are all the topics need to be covered in this project and how the project should be. I need your effective support for this. Thanks in advance Thiyagu
Years ago I purchased Kepler MM and quickly became very fond of it. I loved its combination of modern and humanist characteristics -- the high contrast with the soft, lachrymal and wedge-shaped serifs on characters such as "c," "a," and "r." But technology moved on and Adobe stopped supporting Multiple Master fonts. Compatibility problems with OS X, etc., meant that the font had to be put away for several years. Recently I had a chance to redesign a magazine and chose Kepler as the main text and display font. Since Leopard now supports MM fonts, I installed it and used it successfully for the first issue. For various reasons, now I would like to convert the MM fonts to the OpenType version of Kepler. But Kepler Std is a MUCH different typface than Kepler MM. Gone are the old serifs, replaced with more traditional modern ball-shaped serifs on the "r" and "a." The lowercase "a" now even sports a full tail, instead of the truncated one found on Kepler MM. I'm sure I'll continue with t

I own a legal copy of the Tekton Multiple Master. It came bundled with my original copy of ATM 4.0, which worked fine when I was using Windows NT/2000. The OS on my current home PC is XP. When I try to install Tekton using the built-in Windows Font Installer, no fonts are recognized on the ATM CD. Is there some way to "recover" (uncover?) a usable copy of Tekton from this CD? It's one of my favorite fonts, but I can't afford to replace it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a feeling I know the answer, but have to ask it anyway. Thanks! Catherine
Where may I purchase the GE Inspira type face and its variants? Thanks! Bryan
What is the difference between true type flavor and post script flavor? I noticed that ttf is often more expensive the otf. Does this mean ttf is more compatible with more applications? Are they both still compatabile with both macs and pcs?
