In the old forums, the forum name was encoded into the "To:" and "Reply-To:" fields. This allowed to use the subject for - guess what: the subject! In the past few hours I have already received a ton of new messages that have almost the same, meaningful subject:[InDesign General Discussion] New message: "Re ...[InDesign General Discussion] New message: "Re ...[InDesign General Discussion] New message: "Bla...[InDesign General Discussion] New message: "Do ...[InDesign General Discussion] New message: "Re ...[InDesign General Discussion] New message: "Pro... Please return to the old behaviour. Dirk
Ok, I'm obviously missing something.... how do you tell which threads you've posted on, when looking at a list of threads?
I use email filter rules to search for my first or last name, in order to hilite postings that address or refer to me.Since the email account in use was harvested by spam bots, that rule is also essential to filter out the few direct mails from the enormous amount of spam (after sorting forum mails into other folders). This mechanism does not work any more because the new forum software includes both names in all postings. Can we please have an option in the user profile to suppress that first line? Thanks,Dirk
Does anyone have a handy reference for the meanings of the different icons? They aren't seeming to make sense. Some look like two generic chat bubbles and some have a 1 and a 2 in the bubbles.Additionally, I saw where apparently a post was answered as it had a nifty icon that seemed to indicate it. But when viewing the thread, there seems no indication of which post contained the answer.Cheers... Rick
In many forums you have "code field" like the "quote field"And many of those "code field" is expand/collaps able and often with an option to select all (for copy/paste)I think this is missing frome the forum, perhaps mostly in the forums where code are used/discust (like the dreamweaver and golive forums) but can also come in handy in other forumsI think it woud be great to have thatWhat do you other think ???
I just tried my first email post, and less than half of it appeared at the other end. Are there limits to the length of posts by email? The post included a whole line of dashes - does this have some special significance, since nothing below it appeared? Or are there characters we're not allowed to use? I noticed that {curly brackets} just didn't show. And I didn't get notified of my own post, so the thread is headless at my end. Is this the way it's supposed to be? I would never have noticed that the reason I wasn't getting the responses I expected was that most of my posting was missing if I hadn't visited the forum on the web just to check. Is there anyone monitoring this forum from Adobe or the forum engineers who can answer queries like this? Or should they be going elsewhere?Noel
1) I don't care how, but the mail must be sent in a format which is grouped by threads in email clients. The current way it's received makes replying by email almost impossible. It's extremely difficult to keep track of threads.2) We need to receive emails of our own posts!3) Shorten the subject to something normal.4) Scrap all the garbage in the beginning of the message content. (or at the very least move it to the end of the message). The content should start from below the "message" line (below the dashed line).5) Don't delete the email content when the user tries to quote text in a normal manner (i.e. erase all but the pertinent part of the original message).
is still rubbish - I thought that was being turned off?
And an easy link to them. http://forums.adobe.com/poll.jspa?poll=1004
Well, it looks like a lot of the things got fixed in the new forums. The back button works as expected. I am still using the scripts for the class fixup in SeaMonkey, but they work fine. Also, the menu items of login and such work in SeaMonkey now. I do not know about FF2. John has delivered. Thanks. Bill
I could be missing something, such as a preferences screen. Anyone know?Regards,Len Swierski
... but why is the sub-forums box sometimes above the actions box and sometimes below it?
In this post:http://forums.adobe.com/message/1869909#1869909Laura Hickle appears by the avatar, but Sapphire Cat in the quote. This happens to me too in my 2nd account. How, when and why the discrepancy?
This forum was carried over from the old system. As the "New" Forums are now the "Current" Forums, we are going to merge the discussions. All forum comments will live in http://forums.adobe.com/community/general/forum_comments going forward. Thanks!
Having stayed logged in for years on the old forums, and even managing it during the interim phase, I now get logged out in the same browser session (FF 3) if I come back after doing something else on the computer. And I don't remain logged in if I switch from one bookmarked forum to another!Am I missing some setting?
On my Mac sing Firefox 3.0.8. Safari works fine and the same version of Firefox on the Windows machine is fine as well.If I click on the log-in/register link, I get a messed up page layout where the boxes to log-in are not selectable and below that a dialog that says the page is not available..There's a sample of the screen shot below.
Hi thereThis morning I was able to reply to a couple of posts directly from my E-Mail account. But later I tried and the replies were rejected. I've heard from another community expert that he was seeing rejected replies as well.In case it will help, below is a copy/paste of one rejection.=====> Snip <=====This is the mail system at host mail.sgaur.hosted.jivesoftware.com.I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could notbe delivered to one or more recipients. The new forums are eye candy, but worse for usability. In fact, this is a horrible change. In most forums that I visit, the forums remember what was new at the time you visit, so that the next time you visit, you can see which posts are new, and which ones have nothing new. Not here ... can't find this feature. Most forums that I visit have a button you can click (or this is the default behavior) so that when there is something new in a thread, you click that button and it takes you to the first message that you haven't read in a discussion thread. Not here ... can't find this feature. If a thread has 12 posts, only 2 are new, I seem to have to scroll down to find the new ones myself. Terrible.Computers are good at remembering things. Seems you have decided not to make use of that feature.
In Camino 1.6.7 (see screen shot) the main forum page for Lightroom no longer shows 'Mark all as read' or ACTIONS 'Start a discussion'. They show, here in Safari 4Beta.(Other screen shot). It would also be nice if I could combine my old account from long ago (DonRicklin) that has a post count of 4,544 with my current account with 1545 or so.Don
My post count was somewhere over 2000+ posts before the forum change and now it's 1/10th of that at 289... another poster, I see, has over 200,000 which seems rather skewed. If the web developers who did the change can verify the post counts with a simple query of the actual records based off my user account then they'll see the actual record count doesn't match the number showing up for me under a post.
So are these Jive guys working on the fix for just showing the unread posts. trying to find were you left off is really a time waste. and clicking on the submit feed back takes you to anther Jive forum with no submit form. I'm not impressed.
As someone who belongs to many, many forums over the years, I've gone through a lot of forum software changes. Generally, the vocal majority raise heck about it, but eventually things settle down and people go about their regular forum use with little effort. These new forums are so much "easier on the eyes" than the mind-numbing sea of text we currently have. Some like the new colors, some hate it. Some like avatars & signatures, and some don't. But the reason you come here is for the information, and this new software WILL make it easier to find what you're looking for. Macworld.com switched to this very same software last year. They had an obscenely large user base, all of which voiced their opinions repeatedly, to the point where many simply stopped visiting until the switchover was complete. In general, those that don't like change tend to voice their opinions the loudest. The vast majority though, tend to keep quiet and roll with changes. Today, Macworld's forums are runnin
After applying the various scripts and Adblock page elements blocking, the new forums look very, very good: <br /> <br />c <a href="http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1kh7PYdJTceOSrCTQRbaifku3nd7ke1" /></a> <img alt="Picture hosted by Pixentral" src="http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1kh7PYdJTceOSrCTQRbaifku3nd7ke1_thumb.jpg" border="0" /> <br />c Forum Index Page <br /> <br />c <a href="http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1415Q4LZA1vpwD2HcpwBMdXhf5WjU" /></a> <img alt="Picture hosted by Pixentral" src="http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1415Q4LZA1vpwD2HcpwBMdXhf5WjU_thumb.jpg" border="0" /> <br />c Forum Thread page <br /> <br /> No more avatars, no more "More Stuff Like This" cr@p, no more Community Experts labels, no more Popular Discussions, no more Top Participants, no more points ratings, no more total numbers of posts for each user, no more nonsense. <br /> <br /> My warm
Adobe forums lost the functionality to open the entire message board thread from the google-search results. It will direct you first to the main page and required you to be signed in first. AND when you managed to sign in, you are just in the main home page without the result you clicked from the google-search.And even if you are signed in already, clicking the google-searched result pointing to the adobeforums will still lead you to the main home page instead of the actual thread discussion.I hope this functionality will be considered again. The forums has TONS of sections and products and it will be difficult to use operators here versus the one that Google use. Also the forums has not migrated all the topics especialy in the premiere elements section.
