It's been a recent PITA that I've had to log in every time I visit the forum, whereas before I could load the forum from my bookmark and I would already be logged in. Is this one of the new forum "improvements?"
I think what is not being understood by some participants in these discussion is the scale of change which will follow the transition to the new forums. Have a look at http://www.jivesoftware.com/products/clearspace-community and you'll see that the purpose of the Clearspace Community software goes way beyond the objectives that might be deduced of the current forums and their underlying software. My personal take on things is that Adobe have decided that the whole style of the user interactions and community here is no longer appropriate to their corporate needs. There was a time when provision of a support forum was not seen as much related to the main thrust of company objectives, but those days have gone. Online communities are now one of the chief means of interaction between a corporation and its customers - and it's a two way channel. Interaction between those customers is also facilitated by within the online community but that's not necessarily deemed to be the key objective
I use several fora, but these days I'm mostly in the Lightroom forum. I've been saving the URL when signed on so that by clicking on favorites I automatically end up in the forum already signed on. I got prompted a few days ago to associate my Adobe userid with my forum id. Since doing that I always end up in guest mode and have to sign on every time. I tried resaving the URL (once signed on), but that doesn't seem to work either. I log into the forum daily from the same computer and it's irritating to have to continually supply my id when it was not previously required. Is this the way it is? Can be be fixed? Or, am I doing something wrong? Thanks very much, Selby
I want to edit them so that that don't expire when you close your browser. I had done it before, but something about the new cookies seem to prevent it. I'll keep on working at it. When and if I get it figured out, I'll post the directions in a reply to this thread. In the meantime...if you're using Firefox, and you want to be prepared, go get Chris Pedericks' excellent add-on, go to the following link: http://chrispederick.com/work/web-developer/
Total chaos over logging-in, being logged-out, round and round :(
I've posted this, but I think we need to get back to basics. >What Adobe wants to hear is cogent, rational and professional responses to their proposals to change the forums. >See, Oz, that's the problem. We are not being told in any detail what their proposals are, and we have no idea how much we can influence them. >Take the issue of a 'question answered' indication. Will there be one? In what form? Is there any point saying whether we want one or not? >We just get fuzzy, obscure comments about how some things might be there out of the box, it might be possible to add or subtract some features, but we don't know whether or which. >If Adobe wants cogent, rational and professional responses, they (it?) really need(s?) to make some cogent, rational and professional proposals for us to discuss. >Otherwise we're going round in circles.
Read the spam thread for awhile and you will see that moderation works well in these webx forums You will also see messages concerning the LACK of moderation over in the cfusion side of things Will the new forum software/structure allow for "this" moderation to continue, or will it fall away to "that" style of non-moderation?
During the last fiasco, the French and Spanish ex-Adobe forums simply vanished, only to reappear after things were restored to their previous state. If anyone trusts my memory, I would say that the ex-MM forums remained untouched in that period. Is anyone visiting these forums in a position to say if there is any intention of keeping all/some/none of the international forums? I am aware that there would be technichal problems such as combining both sets of forums for each language, but they should be no more difficult to solve than in the "normal" forums. I also know that the number of participants in the Spain (Adobe) forum is small, but the forum is a great service for all of those who don't know any English. I imagine the situation is very similar at least for the France (Adobe) forum. It would be a pity to loose them. Finally, if they are going to be kept, this would be a good time to translate properly all of their fixed text.
I'm going to start this over. After the forum transition, for the most part, there will be little change in the people that spend time in any area of the forums. People that have been asking and answering questions will be the same people that have always been there, including hosts. A group of people that have been actively working in the MM side forums, and who will continue working in those same areas after the change, have been invited here a bit earlier because, for the first time, they will have the same hosting rights in their areas that hosts on this side have always had... and we wanted to give them an opportunity to learn how to do the housekeeping that they haven't been able to do over there before. In addition, we will all soon have an opportunity to start learning the new software, and we (including everyone that helps with the preview of it that John has discussed) will be able to help others find their way about once it goes public. The new hosts will need to not
Back in the good-old days, just a few weeks ago.... I didn't have to log in every time I visited the forum. And, it would keep track of the posts I've viewed so I didn't have to cruise past the "old" ones to get to the "new" ones. That has changed - for the worse. I don't believe I changed anything on my end, except linking my adobe id's as per the suggestion/requirement. Could this be changed back to the good-old way?
Will the free flow of unified threads be retained, with successive posts filling the entire width, and with simple forum lists of threads, or: A) Are we going to be put in boxes with forum member information to the left and possibly buttons to the left/right/bottom, so the flow is broken up and takes up far more space? B) Will the threads be branched, so everything may become fragmented, and so subjects deserving their own threads will be buried deep? C) Will the forum lists of threads be furnished with dividing lines and possibly arranged by subject rather than latest posts? I believe those are the most fundamental question about the new forum; most other issues can be solved within the right frame, if needed. Several times, strong pleas for mercy have been raised concerning threats A) - C). It is so nice to easily find and pick a thread with new posts in the forum list, and then to run/read through and partake in a coherent and focused thread of successive posts, without things
In another thread John Cornicello wrote: >Yes, adobeforums.com has a permanent cookie available. But it is disabled at the moment because everyone who wants to have their message history preserved in the new system later this year needs to log out and log back in to get the prompt to associate their current Adobeforums account with their Adobe account. The statement regarding the expiration of cookies is certainly true on my MacPro running OS X (10.5.6) and Safari (3.2.1). However...This morning I decided to go to the Lightroom forum from my iPhone. Guess what? I was STILL logged in as Bob Peters. I rebooted the iPHone and I was still logged in. I then powered down and booted the iPhone and...I was STILL logged in as Bob Peters. So, I booted my laptop and went to the Lightroo, forum. You guessed it, I was STILL logged in when using the laptop. I then went to my wife's iMac and found that I'm still logged on on that machine! What the heck is going on? I'm starting to get the fee
Have a look at Jivesoftware's own Clearspace (that's the name of the proposed new forum software here) support forum. You might even want to create an account so you can access everything any other user would. http://www.jivesoftware.com/jivespace/community/support/clearspace?view=discussions What do you like? What do you dislike? How would you make it better? Don't spare the words, be specific and clear in your assessments and suggestions.

Hi, I'm looking for any really good reliable books about FrameMaker for beginners. I found "Adobe FrameMaker 7.0 Classroom in a Book" on amazon but the reviews for it were pretty bad. Does anyone know if there is a FrameMaker book out there that would be suitable for beginners - my version of FrameMaker is 7.2. Thanks in advance for any tips. Sinead.
Can't post a question to any forum (not really sure even this will work.) Any help in this regard would be appreciated.
In this post, Forums Operations, "Just one question about basic performance" #14, 13 Feb 2009 3:45 pm, the term Print Preview seems to hold a certain promise: >When reading messages you can click on Print Preview and see the discussion without all the other elements around it. You can add a reply from this view, too (threaded to the initial discussion topic). If we can: 1) Set it as default in the Preferences instead of having to click repeatedly, 2) Use it to see all messages in the thread and hopefully avoid having it on different pages, and 3) Archive it as it is, it could be (much of) what we need. Then we may let newcomers enjoy newcoming waste of space. But can we?
There is a lot of great technical information in this forum--I refer to it frequently. Only migrating one year of it is not enough, I think. Why can't all of it be migrated? Cheers! -- Jim
...and, if somehow I've missed an existing ignore feature in the current forums, could someone tell me where it's located/how it's activated? Thanks...

Without having even launched the new forums, I predict a lot of unhappy users. Problem 1 is that there will be no Newsreader access to the forums. http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b7c501 I see a disaster similar to the last change that had to be rolled back after several weeks of mayhem. Do the people who make these decisions ever use these forums? Do they even bother to talk to us users? Do they know what a Newsreader is? There is very little wrong with the way that the forums work now. Steve
Since the login changes have started, the operation of the back button has changed for some reason. IE seems to go back to the same place, but SeaMonkey fails to do that. I have tried different browsers and web sites. IE does return to the same place, but both SeaMonkey and FireFox go back to the top of the page. This does not happen on other sites, only the forum, leading to the conclusion that there is a change in the forum software (though I can not find anything in the source listings). In a related manner, a refresh also moves back to the top of the page. This is not typical in browsers and has apparently been added to the forums. Please leave out these moves to the top of the page and leave the page where it was. Let the browser work normally. When one returns to the top of the page with either a back button or a refresh, I then have to just scan down to where I was before again. It gets to be a real pain and I have found it very annoying in the Acrobat for Windows forum. Sinc
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ee6b366/ Would it be possible to re-structure the Photoshop forum, to add a SubForum for CS4 questions? Such as... Ask CS4 Questions Here
I'm fairly new to using the Technical Communications Suite and am considering taking some classes for FrameMaker 8 and RoboHelp 7. The companies that I'm considering are: Lodestone Digital and Sterling Ledet & Assocaies. I'm hoping that at least a few of you may have knowledge of either and/or both of these companies and wouldn't mind sharing your opinion. If there's a better company please let me know (however I'm in Virginia and would prefer not to travel too far.) Thanks for any and all help. Belynda
Hi - I was just at the Flash forum, tried to search for "alternative content" and got a ColdFusion error. I know this has happened before and I know it was reported here before. Since there was no remedy provided other than to report it - here I am. I hope this message reaches the correct admin and helps solve the issue for all involved. I can send a screen cap of the error if that helps. jl MacOS 10.4.11, FFox 3.0.5
