What About Moderators in the New Forum?

Read the spam thread for awhile and you will see that moderation works well in these webx forums

You will also see messages concerning the LACK of moderation over in the cfusion side of things

Will the new forum software/structure allow for "this" moderation to continue, or will it fall away to "that" style of non-moderation?

    Oh, and Phil...

If you want to continue discussing these topics about images/resolution/compression, etc, please...let's move it to the PS forum or the Web Design forum.

It's gotten pretty crazy running this second, parallel confab here in this thread which has nothing to do with those subjects.

    Phil...

Check the http://www.hamrick.com site to see if your scanner is supported by his VueScan software.

It's a really good stand-alone scanner driver, and once you buy in to the pro version, you get free upgrades for life. Got a problem? Ed Hamrick is responsive and fast with his help. It's not unusual for him to issue 5 bug-fixes/updates in one week's time in response to users' requests or report of problems.

    --------
The use of that "ACE" designation implies that replies and postings so-labelled are the only ones worthy of consideration
    --------

if this were true, all those participants in the Macromedia forums, who are no better and no worse than users of those (genuine, as you say) Adobe products would either...

    a) indeed consider our replies higher than those coming from "regular" users

    or

    b) not seek and not appreciate help coming from non Community Experts

This both does not happen at all.

    ------
So why would any non-ACEs even bother to help in the Forums any more if that is the case
    ------

you don´t seem to have the slightest idea for how many years and to what extent any non-ACEs did and do help out each other in the Macromedia forums despite our badge and withour our intervention.

    ------
    Either PAY those ACE's
    ------

that´s your only suggestion I can agree to :-)

    ------
and set up the Forums entirely as "ACE to Questioner" Forums
    ------

now this would introduce an unneeded, impractical and unhelpful measure of separation which defeats the main purpose of enabling an open discussion between everyone.

    ------
Dump those ridiculous, self-aggrandizing and elitist titles entirely
    ------

that´s yet another attempt to characterize the Community Expert identifier (and, logically, the individuals behind this program) using an array of pejorative and insulting attributes.

    -------
and keep the Forums the way that the ADOBE FORUMS have always been namely: User to User Forums
    -------

all forums under the Adobe hood have always been user-to-user, and we Community Experts are by definition users as well and behave no different.

I simply don't see how you reach such a conclusion, Ann. I very much doubt whether it's widely held.

    > So why would any non-ACEs even bother to help in the Forums any more if that is the case.

The do continue to help - because it isn't the case.

    > Either PAY those ACE's and set up the Forums entirely as "ACE to Questioner" Forums and the rest of us can then wash our hands of the whole aqueous stew.

I don't see how payment to the certified expert users is going make any difference to whether you can cease contributing here - it's not something anyone needs to feel somehow compelled to do if the experience is unpleasant.

    > Dump those ridiculous, self-aggrandizing and elitist titles entirely; and keep the Forums the way that the ADOBE FORUMS have always been namely: User to User Forums.

That sentence doesn't make sense to me, having read the previous posts. If someone goes to college and gains a qualification, is that also elitist and self-aggrandizing to put the letters after their name in professional situations? When you visit a medical professional and their certificate is on the wall, do you march out condemning their motivations?

I was invited to join the ACE program but declined simply on the grounds that to comply with the requirements would have taken a lot of time and hard work that I wasn't able to put into it, despite being pretty proficient in the relevant Adobe software. It's no small thing, believe me, and the ongoing requirements are a whole lot more onerous than logging into the forum regularly and giving advice. I think those who go through the ACE hoops entirely deserve recognition and identification, even though they haven't asked for it in the form we are discussing.

I think you mean 2007, Guenter. The programme didn't exist twelve years ago.

    Ann,

If you would deign to dirty your hands for a moment and step over to what you call the MM "dung heap", you would find a set of very active forums, where a high proportion of top-quality answers come from people who aren't designated Community Experts. The Dreamweaver forum in particular is so busy, we couldn't possibly cope without their assistance. The presence of absence of a title doesn't make any difference to people's willingness to contribute.

However, I visited the Adobe Web Design forum earlier this evening, and one of the first threads I found was from someone asking to recommendations of other forums, because "lately the posts are dwindling". http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.ef602c7.

John Cornicello also says "Forum participation has fallen. People in and outside of Adobe are looking for updated features and a new look." Forums Operations, "Just one question about basic performance" #14, 13 Feb 2009 3:45 pm

I'm not a regular over here, so your view of the Adobe forums is probably very different from mine. But if John Cornicello says participation has fallen, that says a lot to me. We'll have to wait to see whether the proposed new system will reverse the decline. I don't like to switch from my preferred NNTP access, but I'm willing to give the new system a shot.

BTW, I agree with you that NNTP isn't appropriate for a graphics design forum, such as for Photoshop; but it does work very well for code-based forums.

PS to Cindy: They're not good points. The technical term for them is complete b*ll*cks.

Thanks I've bookmarked the page I note with sadness though Umax did not upgrade their scanner software for the scanner I use after OS9. and two: Mac's haven't used a SCSI connection for anything in years. Its either USB or FireWire 400/800 with the latest models the FireWire400 connection is going the way of the Doodoo bird

That is a very good point folks.

    So's this one.

Click through, bookmark it, read slowly and sponge it up as you have time; All of it is vitally important if you want to be on the same page as those of us who have done the same studying.

QUICK-START: Scroll down and start at *START .

This site is what cast a million candlepower on the subject of resolution for me, and I've recommended it to literally hundreds of people over the past decade. Primer info doesn't get much better.
